House Republican Leaders Hold News Conference on releasing the Epstein FIles
House Republican leaders held a news conference at the Capitol ahead of a vote to release the Epstein files–documents and evidence collected during investigations into late accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Johnson called the vote “a political show vote” and said Democrats were attacking President Trump by forcing a vote with a discharge petition, which had bipartisan support from Republicans. Moreover, Johnson listed what he didn’t like about the discharge petition and said he hoped the Republican-controlled Senate would amend it accordingly. Despite these criticisms, Johnson affirmed he would vote to release the files. Days before the vote, Trump reversed his position on the matter by telling Republicans to vote to release the files
