(RightWing.org) – Former president Donald Trump is currently on trial in New York, and he isn’t getting on well with the liberal judge in charge of the case. It isn’t all bad news, though. A prominent red state attorney general has just attended the trial in a show of support for the Republican presidential nominee.
On April 30, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) joined spectators at Trump’s ongoing New York trial. The former president is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, an adult movie star he allegedly had an affair with. He’s also just been fined $9,000 for breaching a gag order by discussing potential witnesses in the trial. Judge Juan Merchan, who’s presiding over the trial, has already questioned the credibility of Trump’s witnesses. It can’t be a pleasant experience for him.
However, Paxton made a point of appearing to show Trump he still has high-level supporters. Talking to Newsmax afterward, Paxton slammed the trial saying he’s “seen the weaponization of the judicial system.” According to Paxton, the timing shows this is a classic example of the courts being used as a weapon. He pointed out that the allegations against Trump aren’t new and he could have been tried on them years ago, but “They waited until what, five, six months before the election?”
Paxton said he’s sure corruption exists in the Justice Department and the FBI, and warned that if that doesn’t change “how are we going to be different from Venezuela… than China.” The Texas official also talked about his own experiences of liberal justice. Last August Paxton faced impeachment in the Texas Senate on 16 charges of misusing his office. He was acquitted on all of them, and says the impeachment was a “sham.” According to Paxton, the Biden administration colluded with liberal Republicans in an attempt to remove him. Now Paxton sees the same happening to Trump, so he’s standing with the former president.
