Chris Christie is not running with No Labels.

After keeping the door open, the former governor has declined.

Christie said, โ€œWhile I believe this is a conversation that needs to be had with the American people, I also believe that if there is not a pathway to win and if my candidacy in any way, shape or form would help Donald Trump become president again, then it is not the way forward.โ€

Axios reported:

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has declined to run for president with the centrist political group No Labels, a spokesperson confirmed to Axios on Wednesday.

Why it matters: Christie is the latest high-profile lawmaker to turn down running with the group, as it continues to press on with plans to put forward a โ€œunity ticketโ€ in November.

โ€œWhile I believe this is a conversation that needs to be had with the American people, I also believe that if there is not a pathway to win and if my candidacy in any way, shape or form would help Donald Trump become president again, then it is not the way forward,โ€ Christie said.

The big picture: Christie as recently as last week did not rule out running with No Labels, which has sparked concern from the two major parties that the third-party ticket could spoil the election.

Christie has said he will not vote for Donald Trump.

ABC reported:

Christie has also spoken disapprovingly of Trumpโ€™s expected rematch with President Joe Biden in the general election.

โ€œWe have two awful choices here, in my view,โ€ he said on ABCโ€™s โ€œThe Viewโ€ last month.

He said much the same in a February sit-down with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos.

โ€œThe one thing I can tell you for sure is I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m gonna do in November. But Iโ€™m not voting for Donald Trump, under any circumstances,โ€ he said then.
