(RightWing.org) – The Democratic Party maintains a trifecta in Massachusetts, meaning it controls both state legislature chambers and the governor’s office. Unlike other states, the Democrats’ control is nearly absolute. They hold 36 of 40 seats in the Senate and 133 of 160 in the House. The few Republicans in office appear to have embraced some woke policies in the radically liberal state. News outlets recently reported that the House passed a measure that would redefine parenthood and pave the way for the sale of children.
On June 12, the Massachusetts House of Representatives voted to pass HB4672, An Act To Ensure Legal Parentage Equality, with 156 yeas and zero nays. Two lawmakers didn’t vote on the measure. The bill strategically included “equality” in the title, but what it really does is inflict “equity” on residents of the Bay State. The lower chamber approved the proposed new statute and forwarded it to the Senate for consideration as HB4750.
Conservative media organizations quickly picked up on the underlying woke peril included in the measure. Putting it bluntly, the Federalist warned that the Massachusetts law “would allow women to sell their unborn children.” Natural News echoed that sentiment and attributed the situation to liberal-led efforts to provide profits for pregnancy “under the guise” of a proposed law promoting “parentage equality,” or “equity,” as the site later noted.
Unfortunately for Bay Staters, to a certain extent, that’s precisely what HB4750 does. For some reason, Massachusetts never codified any measures regarding surrogacy or the practice’s medical, legal, or financial ramifications. Instead, state officials relied on common law (court decisions) to regulate agreements between surrogates and adoptive parents.
If passed, HB4750 would finally regulate surrogacy, including financial payments to surrogates in Massachusetts for the first time.
For instance, the proposed measure covers payments to expectant mothers and establishes regulations and guidelines for surrogacy agreements. It also mandates legal representation for all concerned parties, specifies the proper venue for any related legal proceedings should they arise, and much more.
