Logan Roy went on an unholy rant.
In an interview on βThe Starting Line Podcast,β βSuccessionβ star Brian Cox, 77, had some scathing words about the book.Β
βReligion does hold us back because itβs belief systems which are outside ourselves,β Cox said on the show, which published Sunday.Β
βTheyβre not dealing with who we are. Weβre dealing with, βOh if God says this and God does that,β and you go, βWell what is God?β Weβve created that idea of God, and weβve created it as a control issue, and itβs also a patriarchal issue.β
The Emmy-winning actor went on a further tirade, saying, βWe have to honor [women], and we have to give them their place and weβre resistant to that because itβs Adam and Eve. I mean, the propaganda goes right way back.β
He didnβt mince words as he added, βThe Bible is one of the worst books ever, for me, from my point of view. Because it starts with the idea that out of Adamβs rib, this woman was created, and [people will] believe it cause theyβre stupid enough.β
Cox said that some people do need religion for guidance.Β
βThey need it, but they donβt need to be told lies,β he said.Β
βThey need some kind of truth, and that is not the truth β¦ Itβs a mythology.β
The Scottish actor, who is also known for βBraveheart,β βThe Bourne Identity,β βTroyβ and βChurchill,β hasnβt shied away from blunt statements in the past.Β
After his onscreen βSuccessionβ son, Jeremy Strong, 45, gave an interview about method acting, Cox toldΒ βTown & Countryβ magazine that Strongβs method acting is βf β β king annoying. Donβt get me going on it.β
βHeβs a very good actor. And the rest of the ensemble is all okay with this. But knowing a character and what the character does is only part of the skill set,β he added of Strong. βHeβs still that guy, because he feels if he went somewhere else heβd lose it.β
βBut he wonβt! Strong is talented. Heβs f β β king gifted,β he continued. βWhen youβve got the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and have a hit of marijuana, you know?β
βIβve worked with intense actors before. Itβs a particularly American disease, I think, this inability to separate yourself off while youβre doing the job. The result that Jeremy gets is always pretty tremendous. I just worry about what he does to himself. I worry about the crises he puts himself through in order to prepare.β
On the podcast, Cox further went on to say that heβs not optimistic the conflict in the Middle East β especially between Israel and Hamas β will ever stop βbecause of belief systems.β
βItβs all about this notion of God, the idea that thereβs a God that takes care of us all. Thereβs no such thing,β Cox said on Sunday.Β
βItβs about us, and we donβt examine ourselves nearly enough. We donβt look at who we are. Weβre always looking outside of ourselves, instead of looking inside ourselves.β
