Hudson Joseph Meekβs death does not appear to have been caused by foul play and is being investigated as an accident, according to a new report.
Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that they are treating the 16-year-old starβs tragic death as an accident. The sources also allegedly told the outlet there were no signs that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Meek, who was best known for his role in the 2017 movie βBaby Driver,β passed away on Dec. 21 after he sustained blunt force injuries when he fell from a moving vehicle on the evening of Dec. 19 in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The Jefferson County, Ala. coroner confirmed to CBS News that the circumstances around Meekβs death are under investigation by the police department in Vestavia Hills.
The Post has reached out to police and the coroner.
Meekβs mother, Lani Wells Meek, posted about her sonβs death on her Facebook page shortly after he passed.
βOur hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,β she wrote.
βHis 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.β
An obituary for the young actor read, βHe was surrounded by friends, family, and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.β
βHudson was an organ donor, and his family is comforted by knowing that he will continue to help others for years to come.β
βHudson was also an accomplished actor,β his obituary added. βHe worked on several major motion pictures and television shows, some of which will be released in 2025. He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of every member of the cast and crew.β
In addition to acting in the Oscar-nominated βBaby Driverβ as Young Baby, he also guest starred in the Emmy-nominated TV reboot of βMacGyverβ and booked voiceover work in commercials for Toys R Us, McDonaldβs and the online video game βLeague of Legends.β
βHudsonβs personality was one of a kind. He was confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted,β the obituary continued. βHe never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter.β
Outside of acting, Meek had an active school life. A sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he played on his school football team, sang in the Honor Choir and was a part of the student government.
Extracircularly, he earned an advanced open water scuba diving certification when he was 14 and visited all 50 US states.
Meek is survived by his parents, brother, grandmothers, aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life is slated for Saturday at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Ala.
The service will be available to livestream fromΒ his Instagram accountΒ or on his motherβs Facebook page, according to his obituary.
In the wake of his death, the actorβs family created the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship, which will be given to a Vestavia Hills High School student each year. Per Meekβs obituary, the family asks people to donate to the fund instead of flowers.
