Itβs an unbreakable bond.
Christina Applegate has a loving relationship with her 13-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, who she shares with her husband, Martyn LeNoble.
The mother-daughter duo have grown closer as they each deal with serious health issues.
Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021Β and has stepped away from acting.
Sadie revealed on her momβs podcast on June 25 that she has postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome β where your heart rate increases quickly after getting up from sitting or lying down.
βI hate it for you my darling. I really hate it for you,β Applegate told her only child on the podcast. βIβm sad. But I love you and I know youβre going to be OK. And Iβm here for you and I believe you.β
Applegate has gushed over her close bond with her daughter over the years.
Hereβs everything sheβs said about Sadie.
February 2011
One month after Applegate gave birth to Sadie on January 27, 2011, the βDead to Meβ star told People how becoming a mom changed her. She said Sadie βhealedβ her after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and underwent a double mastectomy.
βIβve had to talk about that word [cancer] more than Iβve ever had to talk about a word in my life. After a while youβre like, βThereβs got to be something else to me,β β Applegate said.
βYeah, now Iβm Mom,β the actress added. βSheβs healed me in so many ways. Sheβs just made my life so much better. Sheβs opened my whole soul.β
Applegate also said, βI felt my heart literally open up for the first time and like wrap itself around her. It was profound. And Iβm more in love with her every minute of the day.β
March 2012
The βMarried β¦ with Childrenβ alum gushed over her then-1-year-old daughter to Scholastic Parent & Chill in March 2012.
βShe loves it when I imitate a monkey,β she said, per Us Weekly. βAnd you try to use it again and again, but then by the third time she doesnβt find it funny anymore. Sadie is a much harder critic than the public. β¦ Because she sees her daddy with guitars playing music for her, and then she sees mommy being ridiculous at home. Sheβs sort of an amalgamation of the two of us. But then she has her own things, too. Sheβs very independent.β
February 2017
When Sadie was 6, Applegate told Entertainment Tonight that life was pretty normal as a mom of one.
βNot much to report over here. Making kid breakfast, working out, now going to go pick her up and take her to ballet,β Applegate said.
April 2018
Applegate told PEOPLE that Sadie didnβt know her mom was famous until she was 7.
βOne of her friends said, βYou know, your mom is famousβ and she was like, what?β the Emmy winner said. βShe was like, βMama, what does that mean? Are you famous?β I was like, βItβs not that. I work where people see it and they just kind of know who I am.β β
Applegate continued, βNo one knows who I am at school. I have a mom bun. Iβm filthy all the time. I never wear makeup. I dress like a schlub.β
The Hollywood icon said that she made βa very strict ruleβ regarding Sadieβs future. βShe can study acting until sheβs 18 and then if she wants to have that as a job, then she has the right to make that decision,β Applegate said. βBut under my roof, you train and you become the best that you can be. But also, have a good education.β
November 2022
Applegate gave Sadie a shout-out when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which marked one of her first public events since revealing her MS diagnosis.
βThe most important person in this world is my daughter,β she said at the ceremony. βYou are so much more than even you know. You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting, and I am blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to your school. You are my everything.β
January 2023
Sadie was Applegateβs date to the 2023 Criticsβ Choice Awards, which was Applegateβs first award show appearance since her diagnosis.
βJust a fun fact, the suit my kid is wearing was Scott Weilandβs suit from one of his solo album covers. Scott gave my husband, Martyn, that suit long ago in the glorious β90s,β Applegate tweeted alongside a photo of the pair in their matching black looks.
March 2024
Applegate opened up to PEOPLE about how her battle with MS has affected her daughter.
βDancing with her every day. Picking her up from school every day. Working at her school, working in the library. Being present out of the house, out of my bed. She doesnβt see those things anymore,β Applegate said. βThis is a loss for her as well. And weβre both learning as weβre going along.β
The βFriendsβ guest star added about Sadie, βSheβll come in the room, and if she sees that Iβm laying on my side, she knows that she canβt ask me to do anything. And that breaks me, breaks me. Because I love doing stuff for my kid. I love making her food. I love bringing it to her. I love all of it, and I just canβt sometimes. But I try. I try.β
June 2024
Sadie went on her momβs βMeSsyβ podcast on June 25, 2024, and publicly revealed her POTS diagnosis for the first time.
βI have something called POTS. I have no clue what it actually is, but itβs something to do with the autonomic nervous system, and it affects my heart,β she said. βWhen I stand up, I get really, really dizzy, and my legs get really weak and I feel like Iβm going to pass out.β
Applegate admitted that she was initially dismissive of her daughterβs symptoms.
βI just didnβt see it at home, babe,β the actress said. βAt home you were fine. But itβs kind of like us. We get out in the world, and the stresses and the anxiety of the world bring upon our symptoms much worse than they would be if we were in the safety and the coolness of our own homes.β
Sadie also said that her own diagnosis helped her understand her momβs struggles with MS.
