I am by no means new to pet ownership, especially when it comes to cats. I am, however, very new to owning kittens, as all of my previous felines were adopted when they were well into adulthood. But after my sweet senior cat passed earlier this year, I soon found myself a pet parent to a 12-week-old kitten and on a crash course in kittenhood.
I quickly learned that the needs and behaviors of young cats are vastly different from those that are full-grown, and, like human babies, they require specific products and tools to help keep them safe, healthy, engaged and on track to develop good habits that they’ll take with them into adulthood.
If you’re also a new kitten owner or planning to be one in the future, learn from my own trial and error as I compile a list of all the items that made the transition as seamless as possible, as well as the products that are on my wish list.
Below, I have chosen to feature items that go beyond the essentials and basics, such as litter boxes, food and toys. And don’t worry, I know our sweet fur babies grow up fast, so I assure you that these products will prove to be useful no matter what stage they’re in.
