Being a hot sleeper in general (no matter the season) is more than a slight annoyance. During the colder months in Los Angeles, I still find myself waking up in the middle of the night needing a fan often. The worst part, though? Waking up with a clammy sensation and feeling like you’re stuck to the sheets. Ugh.
While sleeping without a heavy blanket definitely helps me avoid feeling like a furnace at night, I’ve recently realized it’s all about the sheets, folks. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I honestly had no idea cooling bed sheets were a thing until I did a little browsing on Amazon. Life-changing would be an understatement to describe what I found. While Sheex’s Original Performance Sheets are definitely a splurge (retailing for $299 for a queen size), as a hot sleeper, I can tell you it’s money well-spent.
These ultra-soft, luxurious sheets have a buttery softness that, for me, helps minimize night sweats and overheating. The brand also says that the lightweight fabric allows your body to cool itself naturally so you have fewer sleep-disrupting temperature fluctuations.
The fabric composition is simple: 87% performance polyester and 13% spandex, providing plenty of stretch and airiness. If you order the full-, queen-, or king-sized sheet set, it comes with one fitted sheet, one flat sheet and two standard pillowcases. I have the queen set and it’s perfect for all my needs. If you need smaller sizes, the set also comes in a twin and twin XL size which comes with just one pillow cover.
There are six color options to choose from, ranging from dark blue and black to cream and pearl blue. In my opinion, the sheets could use a few more color options (a sentiment reviewers agree with), but hopefully the brand will come out with some more hues in the near future.
Before I put these sheets on, I didn’t realize just how warm I was getting at night, or that there was something I could do about it. I could sense an immediate difference in how much sleep I was getting after having them on for only a week. I wasn’t waking up in the middle of the night like I used to, and, some nights, I didn’t even need to shuck off my comforter.
I’m a little quirky when it comes to my blanket habits. I usually can’t sleep without at least something covering me which, you can imagine, doesn’t always bode well if you’re a hot sleeper. If you have the same problem, this sheet set comes with a really nice flat sheet that’s perfect for those extra hot nights. The flat sheet has just the right amount of weight to it, but like the fitted sheet, it’s incredibly breathable and I didn’t sweat once at night while using it. While it’s going to be great having these sheets for warmer L.A. fall nights, I know these are going to work wonders for me during the summer when hot sleeping is at its peak.
Not to mention the pillowcases. I’m already a bit particular about my pillowcases and usually only sleep on softer fabrics like satin or silk because they’re better for your skin and hair. But because these pillowcases are made of the same soft, stretchy fabric as the sheets, they’re so smooth to sleep on and keep my neck from getting overly sweaty at night.
Overall, I’m so impressed with these sheets. I know they’re a bit expensive, but if you’re a hot sleeper, I’d say these are more than worth the extra money. They’re easy to wash and haven’t lost one bit of their magic after I’ve used and laundered them religiously over the past few months.
