A pediatrician turned in her Texas medical license and is moving her practice to Oregon after being sued by Donald Trump-aligned Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Dr. May Lau was sued last year by Paxton, who described her as a “radical doctor” in a statement announcing her license surrender on Friday. The lawsuit accused her of violating SB 14, a state law passed in 2023 that bars minors from receiving hormone therapy and puberty blockers.

Paxton’s suit claimed that Lau provided hormone replacement therapy to 21 minors and falsified their medical records for the “purposes of transitioning” their gender.

Lau’s attorney Craig Smyser denied those claims in a statement to The Dallas Morning News, calling them “politically- and ideologically-driven allegations.”

SB 14 also revokes the medical licenses of professionals who provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth. The state’s medical board records show Lau requested to cancel her physician license earlier this month.

Paxton’s office cheered Lau’s surrender as a “major victory,” stating it will bar her “from experimenting on children in Texas in the future.”

Lau’s statement says she has “decided to move her medical practice to Oregon and saw no reason to continue to maintain her Texas license.”

The news comes as MAGA-aligned officials have been ramping up verbal and legislative attacks against transgender people during Trump’s second term.
