No body, no crime.
True-crime fanatics had their magnifying glasses ready last week when a woman posted a screenshot from Google Street View to Facebook that appears to show a man transporting a dead body.
The pictureโs uploader, known only as Tami, shared the June 2019 snap that shows a man pushing a bicycle along Kent Street in Akron, Ohio.
A long item appears to be wrapped in a gray tarp that is tied to the bike at several points โ if it is a dead body, the human head could be hanging over the back tire.
โMy niece showed [a photo] to me and I had it saved to my phone so I decided to take a trip to Kent St. on Google to make sure he was still there. The picture is literally worth a thousand words,โ Tami wrote on Facebook, per Kennedy News and Media.
Internet sleuths were quick to brighten the image and claim it showed โbloodโ on the manโs boots and hands, while some even wondered if the unusual images had been reported to police.
The Aug. 23 post has been shared over a thousand times on Facebook.
โHe has a body!โ one user declared.
Another agreed and proclaimed: โLooks like a body.โ
โImagine walking a body down the road like that and seeing the dang Google car drive by you with all the cameras on it,โ a third joked.
Viewers even claimed to have โcleared upโ the image โ with stunning results.
โI cleared up the image. Definitely looks like blood on his boots!โ one person exclaimed.
Another replied: โTrue but who knows what holds the living of a homeless man. Maybe a chopped-up body lol because I donโt see hips. This is really weird/f โ โ ked.โ
One added: โOh my! I couldnโt get that clear of a picture when I zoomed!โ
โHis knuckles though lol,โ another laughed.
Locals speculated that the body-bag-looking object could actually be a tent, as homeless people have pitched tents on a road adjacent to Kent Street.
โThere was a homeless tent city over there for a few years. Iโm guessing itโs a tent,โ someone theorized.
โLetโs hope itโs a tent, not a body,โ another stated.
A Facebooker added: โThatโs gotta be a tent or something. That canโt be what it looks like, right!?โ
The Post has contacted the Akron Police Department and Google for comment.
As of Thursday, Google has blurred the manโs face and the mysterious object pictured at 126 Kent St.
