As Democrats wallow (and Republicans revel) in the blame game over the coverup of President Joe Biden’s mental decline, they need to consider one more question: How and why did the scandalous White House setup wind up producing such far-left policies?
This is one huge reason why “Original Sin” co-author Jake Tapper was right-on Monday when he admitted that the coverup may be “worse than Watergate.”
Consider: Tapper and his co-author, Axios’ Alex Thompson, have revealed that the White House was increasingly run by a “politburo” of long-time Biden confidantes such as Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti, Bruce Reed and Ron Klain, plus First Lady Jill Biden and (sometimes) prodigal son Hunter Biden — none of them much to Joe’s left.
And Biden himself spent his long career in the Senate staying dead-center in the Democratic Party, nor did that change in his years as veep.
And he won the nomination in 2020 precisely as the safe, moderate alternative to Bernie Sanders.
So why did his White House not only embrace Sanders’ program but the even crazier agenda of opening the border?
Against Biden’s own judgment, mind you: Franklin Foer’s book “The Last Politician” detailed the president’s anger in 2021 at being pressured into lifting the cap on “asylum seekers” coming over the southern border.
At the very same time, Biden was still imposing his views over the warnings of his military and foreign-policy advisers as he dictated the (disastrous) details of the pullout from Afghanistan.
Imagine: Two of the administration’s worst moves politically could’ve been avoided if Joe had gotten his way on the border instead of on Afghanistan.

So how and why did his handlers choose when to overrule him?
Somehow, they seemed to always settle on going left, as the administration illegally “forgave” billions in student loan debt, pushed spending bills that sent inflation soaring, funded the spread of toxic DEI ideology, passed braindead climate regulations — and on and on and on.
Our theory: Going left helped enable the coverup.
After all, the party’s biggest bullies are now on the left; best to keep them happy.
And, crucially, the increasingly left-leaning media were a lot less likely to question the president’s fitness as long as they liked what he was doing — and, indeed, eager to shout down the few voices that did raise the issue.
Count this as one thing left out of the supposedly no-details-spared exposés: Not just how the press failed at its mission in the Biden years, but why.
