POLITICS: Why Charles Schumer is the Senator of Chutzpah

The only thing Chuck Schumer knows about antisemitism is how to spread it. Since the Hamas attack on Israel two October ago, Schumer — the senior senator from New York — has systematically ignored the rapid rise of Jew-hatred across America and obstructed any attempt to mitigate it.

Oh, but don’t worry — his new book, “Antisemitism in America: A Warning” will save us!

Thank God for Chuck; without him, Jews would have no idea anything terrible was going on. For someone who is the self-proclaimed “guardian” of the Jewish people (he loves saying that), Schumer sure has a funny way of showing it.

Schumer flaunts his Jewish identity only when it’s comfortable and convenient, like in keynote speeches at synagogues. But his faith is missing in action everywhere else.

In March 2024, as then-Senate majority leader, he put on his proverbial keffiyeh, pounded his fists, and demanded new elections in Israel, blaming Prime Minister Netanyahu as the “obstacle to peace” amid the fighting in Gaza. Forget the fact that Israel is at war for literal survival.

When encampments at Columbia University — along with their accompanying violence, vandalism, and harassment of Jewish students — came to a boiling point in April, Schumer should have rushed to bring the Antisemitism Awareness Act to a vote on the Senate floor after the House overwhelmingly passed it via a bipartisan vote of 320-91 in May. But nah.

How delusional does Schumer need to be to write a book on antisemitism when he’s single-handedly stonewalled the bill that would adopt the most widely recognized definition of antisemitism in the world?

Some 43 countries and 37 states have already endorsed it as of August.

But here’s the problem: Schumer’s far-left Democratic bosses keep him on a very tight leash. Bringing the AAA as a stand-alone bill to a vote on the Senate floor would have exposed the ugly anti-Israel politicians and Jew haters among the Democrats. And no one wants to see that!

No, instead Schumer wants to protect his colleagues who are willing to make Jewish civil rights expendable in the pursuit of voters harboring antisemitic views.

Never mind that Jewish students are not safe going to class. Making things even worse, in October 2024, Schumer told then-Columbia President Minouche Shafik that the political problems brewing on campus “are really only among Republicans.”

The word “traitor” is too strong to describe Chuck because he’s too much of a coward to be one.

As an award-winning marketer and two-time author, I know what it takes to promote a book. I canceled my book tour after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and added the title of “Jewish activist” to my bio. Schumer, on the other hand, has looked to profit from our trauma.

The book’s marketing blurb lays it on thick: “In an urgent and personal new book, Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, the highest-elected Jewish official in America, sheds light on the Jewish American experience and sounds the alarm about the troubling resurgence of antisemitism.”

How ironic that Schumer chooses to “shed light” on this alarming trend rather than step up to the influential position he holds to combat it?

After nearly 18 months of America’s antisemitism epidemic, our community doesn’t need an explainer on “how Jewish Americans like him have come to understand their history, their place in America — and why they worry about the future of Jewish life in America.”

Sen. Schumer’s new book, whose publicity tour had to be delayed, according to reports.

See, when you’re not part of the solution, Chuck, and you have the power to be, you’re part of the problem.

This week, Schumer had a multicity book tour planned with a stop at the prestigious Streicker Cultural Center in Manhattan. The event was to be moderated by Rep. Ritchie Torres, a faithful friend of the Jewish people. If I had to guess, Schumer asked Torres to host as a form of political cover from community backlash, given that he is selling a book on the very issue he refuses to help solve.

That’s why a broad coalition of Jewish New Yorkers and I planned to protest at his book talk on the Upper East Side. Not because we care about how his book sells, but because he needs to face the lies he spins about his unwavering support for the Jewish community.

When it comes to antisemitism, Sen. Schumer only knows how to spread it, says author Aliza Licht.

But alas, he managed to piss off not only the Jews but progressive grassroots organizations due to his recent support of a Republican-led spending bill aimed at averting a government shutdown. News soon followed that he “postponed” his book tour due to “security concerns.” Really? I’d say it’s because he was too much of a wimp to face his critics.

Well, Chuck, book tour or not, we’re not done with you. Forget that you’re a fraud or that you’re trying to capitalize on Jewish fear. We demand that as Senate minority leader, you immediately bring the Antisemitism Awareness Act to the Senate floor as a stand-alone piece of legislation.

If the Senate does not pass this bill, it is voting against Jewish civil rights. As a reminder, those are your civil rights, too, Chuck. President Trump may have recently joked that you’ve become a Palestinian, Sen. Schumer — but Hamas wouldn’t think twice about locking you up in a dark tunnel in Gaza.
