The White House fired back at former Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday after she labeled members of the Trump administration as “crazy mother—ers” during a private Los Angeles event.
“Kamala Harris should listen to an audio recording of her cackle of a laugh before calling anyone crazy,” White House spokesman Kush Desai told Fox News.
Harris’ comment came during “A Day of Unreasonable Conversation,” an invite-only gathering for entertainment and media figures. Speaking about her new memoir 107 Days, which details the turbulent 2024 election, Harris said the current political climate has left many people feeling unmoored.
“There’s so much about this moment that is making people feel like they’ve lost their minds,” she said. “When, in fact, these mother—ers are crazy.”
Although she didn’t mention the Trump administration by name, her remarks were widely seen as a jab at her former political rivals. Harris added that her book was an effort to ensure her “voice” was part of the historical record, calling on writers and storytellers to channel their emotions into their work.
The event was not listed as part of her official book tour, which includes stops in New York, Houston, and San Francisco before heading to Canada and the U.K.
Critics in Trump’s orbit were quick to seize on the comment, with many resurfacing old clips of Harris’ trademark laugh and past moments of public confusion. Trump himself has frequently mocked Harris, calling her “laughing Kamala” on the campaign trail and accusing her of trying to suppress her laugh to appear more serious.
“She’s worse than Bernie Sanders,” Trump said during a Fox News interview last year. “That laugh? That’s a laugh of a crazy person. Somebody must’ve told her, ‘Don’t laugh under any circumstances.’”
Harris’ off-script remark comes as she continues her high-profile media push, blending memoir promotion with political messaging — and reigniting the sharp partisan exchanges that defined her time on the national stage.
