Two Israeli embassy staff members were killed by a man as they left an event from the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC.
The victims were Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim.
A pro-Palestinian man is in custody after allegedly killing two Israeli embassy staff members who were leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night, authorities confirmed.
The Embassy of Israel to the US identified the victims as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, who were set to be engaged.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said during a news conference that officers responded to multiple calls of a shooting near the museum at around 9:08 p.m. on Wednesday.
When authorities arrived at the scene, a man and a woman were found unconscious and not breathing. Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, Smith said both were pronounced dead.
According to a witness, the killer shouted, “Free Palestine.”
One witness claimed that the individual who committed the killing shouted, “Free Palestine,” repeatedly while being escorted out by police.
“After the shooting a guy came inside [the museum] saying he saw it and needed water and a safe space, then whipped out a keffiyeh and yelled free Palestine a bunch before being escorted out by police,” the witness told Kraushaar.
Donald Trump released a statement on the killing, saying they were “based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW!”
