The Issue: President Trump’s prime-time address boasting the progress he’s made since taking office.
Presidents request to have the spotlight when they have something vital to share with the nation. Instead, President Trump gave a vapid fireside chat as short on facts as it was on actual news (“$1,776 bonus for soldiers,” Dec. 18).
He can no longer read the room. His outright refusal to acknowledge the pain of his own base is costing him their support. Empathy would be off-brand for this man, but its absence is contributing to the growing rifts within the party.

Trump’s speech was exactly the perspective and approach I look for in all elected officials. He gives us objectives, strategies and tactics as well as the measurable outcomes of his plan.
There was no wokeness, no grandiose “yes we can” Obama motivational nonsense, no fake tears, no calls for aid for the lazy couch potato, no attacks on capitalism, no venom towards billionaires or simple guys like me.
His speech was just the facts on how we have and will continue to fix this mess. I’d call that the greatest presidential speech of all time.

One thing that was noticeably different during Trump’s address was that he seemed on edge. It appears he’s aware that more and more of his cult members no longer believe in him. His dismal approval ratings show this. Hopefully they will have had enough of him and move on soon.

Trump’s speech was just more BS from the biggest BS’er ever. He lied from the very get-go and continued to lie the entire time. He thinks everyone will believe just him, and then he can go back to sleeping through Cabinet meetings.
We had Sleepy Joe. Now we have Dosing Don, the laziest and least informed president ever.

Trump’s staccato-like presentation to the nation featured big percentages to mask the smaller percentages that show plummeting support for his economic policies.
For example, he claims the price of eggs are down 82% since March and illegal drugs coming into the country are down 94% since he took office. What big and impressive numbers! All he needs to do is say it out loud, and it must be true. Makes life so much easier, doesn’t it?

Saturday Night Live is going to have a field day with this address to the nation. Trump was, well, Trump. He attacked former President Joe Biden, made up facts and shouted for approximately 17 minutes.
My only question is this: Will SNL’s opening sketch be as long?

The Issue: Kevin Sabet’s column doubting the effectiveness of marijuana for medicinal use.
I would like to thank Kevin Sabet for his article about marijuana. It has never been medicine (“Big Weed’s Lie,” Post-Opinion, Dec. 16).
I lost a very good friend to a heart attack brought on by his addiction to pot. Smoking weed more than doubles your chances of heart attack and stroke, and it can cause violent psychosis in mentally disabled people.
Please be aware of the risks. The myth of “medical marijuana” is over.
