Donald Trump made a fantastic choice in tapping Rep. Elise Stefanik as US ambassador to the United Nations.
Turtle Bay has long been a sewer of hatred and lies β just what Stefanik has specialized in exposing.
Sheβs done just that in Congress, as head of the House Republican Conference and as a ferocious warrior against antisemitism during recent House hearings.
Indeed, Stefanik has stood out from early on: A Harvard grad, she won her seat in Congress at just 30, then the youngest woman ever elected to the House.
In just a decade since, sheβs earned her way to one of the top GOP leadership positions. (A fitting rise for a woman who in 2009 founded the blog American Maggie, named for Lady Thatcher, to promote the views of conservative women.)
Sheβs also served on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees, excellent experience for the UN job.
Sheβs primed, in short, to follow in the steps of hard-hitting, truth-telling UN envoys like Jeane Kirkpatrick and Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
The corridors of power in Washington and the United Nations desperately need such a rabble-rouser, if for nothing else than to shine a light on Turtle Bayβs moral depravity.
This is a body, after all, headed by a secretary-general, AntΓ³nio Guterres, who basically blames Israel for Hamasβ Oct. 7 slaughter-fest.
Itβs an organization whose International Court of Justice has held the Jewish state βresponsible for apartheidβ and violating international law and is probing Israel for genocide, charges with no links to reality.
Itβs a body that pledges to βsave succeeding generations from the scourge of warβ yet seems uninterested in stopping belligerent nations like China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.
Calling out those nations and uniting the world against them will be her greatest challenges β along with reasserting US leadership on the global stage.
Consider: Iran is on the cusp of a nuclear-bomb breakout, and Israel has been fighting for its life for more than a year.
Stefanik needs to get Western nations like France, Spain and Ireland to end their antisemitism and join the United States and Israel in efforts to thwart Tehranβs hostile intentions.
Beijing, too, needs exposing and isolating: China has been provoking its neighbors β the Philippines and Taiwan, in particular β and is planning to subsume the latter, by force if necessary, in the next few years.
The West, with US leadership, must also redouble steps to deny Russia any significant victory in Ukraine, lest Vladimir Putin be emboldened to seek more territorial gains in Europe.
Yes, Trump and the rest of his national-security and diplomatic teams bear prime responsibility for these struggles β but the UN is a vital front in all of them.
Elise Stefanik will stare down, and call out, the worldβs villains in hallways they now think they own.
The sooner she starts, the better.
