The DNC convention was not enough to give Kamala Harris a lead over Donald Trump according to a new Rasmussen poll.
The new poll found Donald Trump leading Kamala Harris 48% to 46%.
Trump also has an 8-point lead among independents.
Vice President Kamala Harris continues to trail former President Donald Trump even after the Democratic National Convention (DNC), according to a Rasmussen Reports poll.
The poll, published on Thursday, finds that 48 percent of the 1,893 likely voter respondents back Trump, placing him two percentage points above Harris at 46 percent. Three percent of respondents are undecided.
Independents are breaking for Trump over Harris by an eight-point margin of 49 to 41 percent, while each candidate is backed by 82 percent of their party’s voters.
The margin of error (MOE) is ± three percentage points, and the poll was conducted on August 22, the last day of the DNC, and August 25-28.
Democrats are worried that the polls showing them leading will be wrong again.
Democrat strategist Julian Epstein said, “If the polling errors are anywhere close to what they were in 2016 and 2020, then Trump is in the lead right now”
Vice President Kamala Harris’ rise to the top of the Democratic ticket has generated momentum in the polls for the party, but some experts aren’t convinced by her new lead.
“If the polling errors are anywhere close to what they were in 2016 and 2020, then Trump is in the lead right now,” Democrat strategist Julian Epstein told Fox News Digital.
The comments come as the Real Clear Politics polling average shows Harris with a slim 1.5 point lead over former President Trump nationally, a significant shift from the three-point lead Trump held over Biden the day before the president dropped out of the race.
But the Harris lead is also a much smaller gap than Trump faced at the same time in 2016 and 2020, when the Republican nominee trailed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by 6 points and Biden by 7.1.
While Trump won in 2016 and failed to win re-election in 2020, the former president greatly outperformed his polling numbers in two close elections, a fact that is not lost on Democrats heading into the stretch run of 2024.
