President Donald Trump has landed a landmark trade deal with the European Union, marking one of the final pillars in his global trade strategy.

The deal comes just days before the U.S. was set to slap heavy tariffs on European imports.

Trump met face-to-face with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Europe to finalize the agreement.

Under the terms, the EU will pay a 15% tariff on exports to the U.S., including automobiles—an issue Trump insisted on.

Aircraft parts, pharmaceuticals, and select chemicals will be exempt, von der Leyen told reporters.

This deal mirrors the one that Trump struck with Japan earlier this week, which marked another major win for his administration, according to Trending Politics.

Von der Leyen confirmed the 15% tariff will not be stacked onto existing rates, avoiding a potentially crippling 30% figure previously floated by the White House.

Trump described the deal as “very substantial,” emphasizing a massive $750 billion energy commitment from the EU.

“They’re going to invest an additional $600 billion,” Trump said at a joint press conference. “All of the countries will be opened up to trade with the United States at zero tariff.”

He also announced that the EU will be purchasing “a vast amount of military equipment” from the U.S.

No dollar figure was given for the military purchase—but Trump made clear: “We make the best military equipment in the world.”

The agreement knocks down what was widely seen as the most significant obstacle in Trump’s sweeping trade plan.

Now, with China, Japan, the U.K., and the EU locked in, only Canada, Mexico, and South Korea remain.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says a South Korea deal is likely “in weeks,” and this EU agreement puts added pressure on Canada and Mexico to negotiate.

Earlier this week, Trump finalized trade deals with both the Philippines and Indonesia.

Each will pay a 19% tariff on exports to the U.S.

“The Philippines is going OPEN MARKET with the United States, and ZERO Tariffs,” Trump posted on Truth Social following his meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

He added: “It was a Great Honor to be with the President… He is also a very good, and tough, negotiator.”

Trump’s July 22 deal with Japan, combined with this new agreement, signals what may be the most successful week of his presidency on trade.

With the EU now on board, Trump has sent a clear message: the era of one-sided trade deals is over.
