War on pet stores?

I don’t know if there’s a “war” on pet stores, but the pet trade certainly has its casualties — the animals (“Mad War on Pet Stores,” John Stossel, PostOpinion, Oct. 13).

Puppies and kittens sold in stores often come from filthy breeding mills, where mothers are caged and bred repeatedly until they collapse. Responsible laws prevent cruelty and protect consumers from heartbreak.

Stossel often writes in favor of individual rights. We should remember that animals are individuals too — ones who deserve more than to be treated as merchandise.

Devine is Divine

Miranda Devine is divine — she nailed it as usual (“Recognition of greatness,” Oct. 16 ).

Her column on President Trump is especially impressive and a brilliant and original analysis of his extraordinary strengths, personality and character. She is a powerful writer and speaker of truths.

Rikers Island flop

The insane scheme to close Rikers Island and replace it with four limited-capacity boutique jails located in residential neighborhoods was an absolute boondoggle and a clown show from the start (“Rebuilding Rikers: The One Sane Path,” Editorial, Oct. 10).

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Mayor Bill de Blasio brought in former Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman to legitimize the project, but he was never anything but a political shill for his corrupt childhood pal Sheldon Silver.

Lippman, de Blasio and Mark-Viverito are like the Three Socialist Stooges of criminal justice reform, and Zohran Mamdani is Comrade Shemp.

Don’t let them go!

How did judges get the authority to release known and proven murderers (“Cut loose to ‘cut another,’ ” Oct. 16)?

Most times, the felons go on to repeat murderous crimes and no one pays attention to the judges. In this case, Judge Ralph L. Wolf granted Demitri Marshall release just one month after he slashed an innocent person. When will judges be held accountable?

Kamala’s delusion

Kamala Harris’ delusional tome is filled with pipe dreams (“Kamala’s book tour de farce,” Miranda Devine, Oct. 13).

Anyone even thinking of jumping on her bandwagon is equally out of touch with reality. She manages to blame everyone and everything instead of embarking on a therapeutic journey of self-reflection on her inadequacies. She is filled with narcissism and egomania. Her political future will be going nowhere.

Foolish Mikie

There seems no comparison between the common sense campaign of Jack Ciattarelli and the unglued foolishness of leftist Mikie Sherrill (“Hamming it up on trail,” Oct. 12).

In her rush to sound like a leader, she frequently comes up with ideas that voters — including other Democrats — find unattractive and too costly with little substance.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past 10 months of President Trump’s term, it’s that promoting goals that are unattainable only frustrates voters. Common sense plays better than pie-in-the-sky because some of those goals may actually be reached, and that’s what feeds popularity.
