Donald Trump told reporters that the Wall Street Journal wants to settle his defamation lawsuit.
Trump sued the Wall Street Journal after it published an article claiming Trump contributed to a birthday project for Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump said, βThey are talking to us about doing something but weβll see what happens.β
He added, βthey want to settle it.β
President Donald Trump on Tuesday told reporters on Air Force One that the Wall Street Journal is looking to settle the presidentβs defamation lawsuit against the outlet over its story on Trumpβs ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump sued the outlet earlier this month after it published a story claiming the president contributed to former Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwellβs 50th birthday project for the late, disgraced financier, which consisted of notes from close friends. The birthday gift was presented to Epstein in 2003.
The president has denied writing a birthday card for Epstein that was part of the project, which he claimed he told the outlet before it published the story. He has since claimed the story has caused βoverwhelming financial and reputational harmβ to him.
βIβve been treated badly by the Wall Street Journal,β Trump told reporters. βI would have assumed that Rupert Murdoch controls it, but, you know, maybe does, maybe doesnβt. They are talking to us about doing something but weβll see what happens. Maybe they would like us to drop that, so weβll see β¦ they want to settle it. When I get treated unfairly, I do things about it.β
Trump has won settlements against other media outlets recently.
Trump has snagged settlements against other major news outlets in recent months as his administration feuds with national media. CBS earlier this month settled for $16 million after the president sued over a β60 Minutesβ interview with then-Vice President Harris during the 2024 cycle. And late last year, ABC settled for $15 million a defamation lawsuit Trump filed over an anchorβs mischaracterization of a jury verdict finding the president liable for sexual abuse.
Will the Wall Street Journal settle?
