According to records, Nathan Wade claims that his employer and romantic partner, Fani Willis, had planned to charge Trump even before assuming office.
Documentation reveals Nathan Wade, the Georgia lawyer selected by Fulton County prosecutor and former romantic partner Fani Willis to lead the prosecution against former President Donald Trump, engaged extensively with the Biden-Harris White House.
The House Judiciary Committee, after obtaining records, disclosed on Monday that Wade accounted for hours spent in discussions with the White House, the January 6 congressional committee, and other Washington, D.C. officials.
A transcript released by the committee shows Wade, under subpoena, revealed that Willis was setting up to prosecute Trump ahead of her taking office, placing Wade on a “search committee” that ultimately led to him being selected for the position.
On May 23, 2022, Wade billed eight hours to the Fulton office for travel and “Conf with White House Counsel.” Wade stated he could not recall who was present from the White House or the meeting location.
On November 18, 2022, Wade noted eight hours for an “Interview with DC/White House” but later testified under oath that he did not recall the meeting or its format.
Between September 7 and September 9, 2022, Wade charged $6,000 to taxpayers for “Witness Interviews; conf call DC; team meeting,” yet could not remember what the D.C. meeting involved.
On April 25, 2023, he claimed to have spent eight hours in a “Zoom conf with investigators in other jurisdictions,” with no memory of the details.
Wade reportedly could not remember specific details 58 times in total. His unreliable recollection was evident in Georgia courts as witnesses attempted to align timelines regarding Willis’s hiring of Wade, her secret boyfriend, without contradictions.
As the congressional interview unfolded, Wade’s evasiveness persisted. Despite multiple acknowledgments of meetings with “individuals associated with the January 6th Committee,” a Democrat-led endeavor against Trump, Wade insisted he neither met with nor communicated with committee members or staff. Instead, he mentioned interacting with unnamed attorneys whose client he could not identify.
In April 2022, Wade logged 24 hours for “Team meeting; conf with Jan 6th; research legal issues to prep [interview]” and another eight hours on November 16, 2022, for “Jan 6 meeting and Atty conf.”
In response to allegations of corruption in prosecution proceedings involving a Trump co-defendant in Georgia, Wade initially provided written statements under oath denying any relationship with Willis during his marriage to another woman, then later confessed on the stand to their relationship. Consequently, the judge ordered either Willis or Wade to be removed from prosecuting Trump to prevent misconduct, and Wade stepped down.
In Congress, Wade’s testimony cast doubt on whether Willis appointed him as a special prosecutor, despite his lack of relevant expertise, as a personal favor due to their romantic involvement. Wade confirmed to Congress his lack of experience for the special prosecutor role, admitting to having to take classes for job preparation once employed.
Despite U.S. Marshalls’ efforts, Wade was unlocated for days when serving a subpoena. He justified his absence by citing trial preparation and being on pain medication for an ankle injury sustained from basketball.
