Gov. Costs Lee (R-Tenn.) stated transgender athletes need to be prohibited from using middle and high school sports groups.
“I do believe that transgenders participating in women’s sports will destroy women’s sports,” Lee mentioned.
His remarks came as Republicans continue to press legislation which would need trainee athletes to show their sex matches their initial birth certificate.
“We have an obligation to make sure that our sports are fair,” State Rep. Scott Cepicky (R-Tenn.) mentioned. “That you are competing against individuals like you.”
Advocates of the costs stated transgender athletes contending in “traditionally gendered” sports would have an unreasonable benefit since they are naturally more powerful, quicker and larger than those recognized as female at birth. Challengers have actually slammed the legislation, stating it victimizes transgender kids.
State Sen. Heidi Campbell (D-Tenn.) required to Twitter to call Lee’s remarks “hurtful,” and an insult to the LGBTQ neighborhood.
What a painful thing for a leader to state. There have actually been absolutely no occurrences of this being a problem. This is simply dislike legislation, and to double down with an insult to our LGBTQ neighborhood is unneeded. Let’s choose leaders who appreciate ALL Tennesseans! https://t.co/AbfdVgbCpZ

Arguments over the costs started after Joe Biden signed an executive order which disallowed schools from rejecting trainees access to sports based upon their gender identity.
Regardless of the order, Lee stated transgender trainees taking part in school sports would reject female athletes college chances.
“It will ruin the opportunity for girls to earn scholarships, it will put a glass ceiling back over women that hasn’t been there and sometimes I think it’s bad for women and for women’s sports,” Lee stated.
Lee went on to call Biden’s order an incredible overreach of the federal government into the states.
