Itβs a great sign that Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly looking to hire Randy Mastro to replace one of the four deputy mayors jumping ship amid the latest bout of left-wing hysteria.
The prog fury centers on the Justice Department move to drop the federal corruption case against him; itβs bizarre to see folks quitting over that when they were willing to work for him as he headed to trial, but itβs also nuts that this has Gov. Kathy Hochul seeking to curtail the mayorβs authority.
Bringing in Mastro would be a fit answer to the far-left screams, since heβs another hate figure for these folks, who killed Adamsβ recent push to name him corporation counsel.
As a veteran of the Giuliani City Hall, Mastro is beyond qualified.
For other good picks, Adams could look to his own staff: senior advisers Rory Whelan, Diane Savino and Nate Bliss have decades of government and private-sector experience β and none can be called an βAdams crony.β
The mayor needs hires/promotions that project stability and allow him to focus on the business of governing.
Tapping the likes of Mastro might make his enemiesβ heads explode, but itβll let him get on with the work of saving the city.
