Treat nurses fairly
Again, The Post is on the wrong side of the nurses’ plight (“A Sickening Nurses’ Strike,” Editorial, Dec. 26).
Nurses are the backbone of medicine. They do many thankless tasks that are “beneath” doctors. Don’t get confused that Medicare cuts will in any way short the profits for these hospitals. Go and check out what the CEO of the public hospitals walks away with yearly.
Many nurses work 12-hour shifts, and during the pandemic, they were the ones sent into the rooms with little regard for their lives. Nurses deserve every penny they can get, and if it cuts into what the CEO and board members make, so be it.

EMTs need unions
Robert Tucker’s recent opinion claims to defend New York City’s EMTs and paramedics while blaming their unions for a system in crisis (“Our Brave EMTs Need a Rescue Now,” PostOpinion, Dec. 22).
It’s a convenient narrative that collapses under the weight of the facts. If EMS was facing a “looming public safety crisis,” why did he never treat it like one while he had the authority?
He states we need to abandon our parity push, showing how ill-informed he is about the workforce he supposedly led. We won an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission decision and class-action status.
The city’s EMS crisis will not be solved by blaming workers or their representatives. It will be solved when leaders are willing to show up and fight publicly for the people who keep the system alive every day.

Outlaw pit bulls
I am beyond outraged that an uncaring and irresponsible individual whose vicious dog mauled the leg of a 1-year-old baby is free to walk the streets with his pet monster (“Pit bull mauls tot,” Dec. 24).
At the very least, he should have been arrested for reckless endangerment. That he “calmly walked away” before police arrived is proof of his inhumanity.
Pit bulls should be outlawed. The baby’s family is absolutely right to pursue legal proceedings to have the dog euthanized.

Bondi conspiracy
By immediately connecting the massacre of Jews in Bondi to Israel, Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez’s attitudes cannot be clearer (“Resign push over Bondi posts,” Dec. 20).
His apologies are hollow; his enthusiasm in first posting this bile can’t be explained by “poor judgment.” While he tries to hide it, he is a five-star antisemite, and he promotes it. He has no place governing anywhere.

An Obamacare fix
It is evident that Obamacare is a failure, but an abrupt end to subsidy enhancements could create havoc for many American families (“Practical Bamcare Politics,” Editorial, Dec. 20).
Republicans would be best served to include a short extension of the subsidy enhancements in a larger bill of market-based solutions they’ve promoted. This will lock in those fixes and prevent Democratic “game-playing” when the expiration of those subsidies comes.
