Achieving world peace wonβt be easy, even with a veteran negotiator at the helm.
President-elect Donald Trump earned accolades for his involvement with a Gaza cease-fire deal brokered between the U.S., Qatar and Egypt, despite Joe Biden attempting to take credit.
Trump made headlines saying there would be βhell to payβ if U.S. hostages held by Hamas in Gaza werenβt released. Trumpβs fiery rhetoric appeared to get the ball rolling for potential peace and the release of Americans.
The celebrations were cut short, however, when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stopped the Israel Cabinet from finalizing the deal on Thursday.
BREAKING: Hostage and ceasefire deal in Gaza had nothing to do with Biden, Arab officials say.
The deal today came after Trumpβs incoming Middle East envoy STEVE WITKOFF met with Netanyahu.

βHamas is reneging on the understandings and creating a last-minute crisis that is preventing an agreement,β a statement from Netanyahuβs office said. βThe Israeli cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement.β
The deal was to go into effect on January 19th β the day before Trumpβs Inauguration.

The Biden administration appeared to take credit for the deal on Wednesday announcing that it would be enacted in three phases, with the first phase taking up to six weeks.
It would include βa full and complete cease-fire, withdrawal of Israeli forces from all the populated areas of Gaza, and the release of a number of hostages held by Hamas, including women and elderly and the wounded. And Iβm proud to say Americans will be part of that hostage release and phase one as well. And the vice president and I cannot wait to welcome them home,β Biden said.
The deal is 100% due to Trump. Biden knows it. Kamala knows it. Hamas knows it. Trump promised thereβd be βhell to payβ if hostages werenβt released by inauguration. pic.twitter.com/GCywL2KN5p

For now, it looks like itβs back to the drawing board for Trump to get the deal finalized. The good news is, that it should be harder for the Biden admin to claim credit for potential peace deals with his time in the Oval Office running out.
Meanwhile, Netanyahuβs office stated that the Isreal Cabinet wonβt reconvene to vote until βHamas backs down,β Fox News reported.
For its part, Hamas pushed back on Netanyahuβs claims saying that the group is committed to the agreement.
