Continuing to tell the hard truth about crime in New York City and the lefties who enable it, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch just explained: “If you’re interested in stealing a car, the absolute best place to do it is in the Bronx.”
At the Citizens Crime Commission meeting, Tisch ID’d the prime suspect even though she didn’t name her name.
The data prove the PC right: Car theft dropped significantly in the city overall by 12% over Q1 of this year — but climbed 3.6% in the Bronx.
Why? Well, District Attorney Darcel Clark’s team mostly skips hitting car thieves with the felony charges they deserve, favoring only a misdemeanor possession-of-stolen-property charge.
Tellingly, Clark recently tried to blame the Bronx’s city-leading increase in quality-of-life complaints — over “small” things like aggressive panhandling, open-air drug use and similar offenses — on vague root causes like poverty and lack of opportunity.
But again and again, Clark’s office (per its own data) has gone easy on all crooks, declining prosecution for close to a third of all arrests in recent years, and declining violent felony offenses about a fifth of the time.
That’s the root cause, and that’s why car theft is up.
In a perverse way, though, this is good news. As Tisch put it, “Much of this is supremely solvable. It’s just a matter of getting it done.”
If Bronx crime really were due to poverty, fixing it would be next to impossible, in other words — but it’s not.
Which means Clark is, quite literally, standing in the way of “getting it done.”
And New Yorkers are waking up to the fact that the people they trusted (like Clark, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and countless others) have betrayed them by protecting thieves, thugs and killers.
