Gavin ‘nuisance’
The Post’s recent editorial revealing that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is doubling-down on the tired, unsuccessful tactics pushed by the left is spot-on (“Newsom Doubles Down,” Dec. 5).
This can be boiled down to a the line that “bad ideas are pushing the Dems into electoral irrelevance.”
We’ve already seen how myriad lawsuits against President-elect Donald Trump have hindered the Democrats.
And if they’re searching for ideas for the 2028 campaign, I’d humbly suggest they keep telling men without college degrees how they are “deplorable” and “garbage,” because that clearly worked so well in two of the last three elections.

Fifth Ave plans
The proposed plan to make Fifth Avenue more pedestrian-friendly would be a massive waste of time and money (“A b’day bash for ‘200’ Fifth Avenue,” Dec. 9).
The city has thousands of needs that are more important than this.
Simple, no-cost improvements would be removing all food trucks from the area.
Then removing all “in your face” LED and zipper signage that obnoxiously intrudes upon all who care to shop or visit there.
Same goes for the incredibly bright distracting LED lights that adorn taxi cabs.
Next, we should do away with all other intrusions on our sidewalks: kiosks, bike racks, “news stands,” etc.
I wonder how many of these pedestrian blockers are illegally violating federal ADA laws and regulations.

Old anxieties
John Mac Ghlionn either does not play video games seriously, or he does not know his video-game history (“Move over schools, DEI is taking over the world of video games,” PostScript, Dec. 7).
Else he would never have suggested a new DEI trend is “thriving” in video games and may influence impressionable young video-game addicts.
Millennial and Gen X kids saw transgender representation as early as Super Mario Bros. 2 and Final Fight — especially as antagonists.
And no one is claiming that beating up characters like “Birdo” and “Poison” over and over for hours on end led to anti-trans hate.

Canada, USA?
Canada is not the 51st state of United States (“Trump: You’re a Tru Canada ‘gov,’ ” Dec. 11).
But every now and then we Canadians hear that. Remember when Trump wanted to buy Greenland?
I am certain he might say the same thing about Canada at some point.
Canada and the United States are attached, however you slice and dice it.
At some places along the border, you can have one foot in USA and the other in Canada.
But Canada has been an independent nation since 1876, and will continue to be, no matter how high the tariffs.

Kurds out of luck?
President Biden will likely do nothing about Turkish and Islamist militia attacks against our Syrian Kurdish allies (“US Better Rein on Turkey’s Erdogan,” Editorial, Dec. 11).
I do not anticipate that the secular, pro-American Kurds will fare better with President-elect Donald Trump, who has an affinity for autocratic strong men like Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin.
I doubt that the Trump administration will lift a finger to intervene or to issue any warnings to Erdogan, who is slowly converting Turkey from a secular nation into a Sunni version of Iran.
