A group of U.S. lawmakers just made a rare trip to China. This is the first visit from House members to China in six years. They say the goal of the trip is to talk about trade and military communication. On the surface, that might sound like a good idea. But we must look deeper and ask: Is this in line with our American values? Is it wise to trust a communist regime that has lied, covered up a deadly virus, and fueled a drug crisis that is killing our people?

The lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. He called the visit an “ice-breaking trip.” But let’s be clear—there’s more than just ice between us. There’s a great divide between freedom and tyranny, between our Constitution and the Chinese Communist Party’s rule by force.

Representative Adam Smith, a Democrat from Washington State, led the group. He said the U.S. and China need to talk more, especially on military matters. That sounds nice in theory. But why should we be eager to hold hands with a country that silences its own people, threatens Taiwan, and spies on us from the skies?

Let’s not forget how we got here. In late 2019, COVID-19 broke out in China. Instead of telling the truth, the Chinese Communist Party shut down doctors and citizens who tried to warn the world. They lied, and millions died. That’s not just a mistake—it’s a crime against humanity.

And what about fentanyl? Every year, this deadly drug kills tens of thousands of Americans. Most of the chemicals used to make fentanyl come from China. President Trump has rightly called out the CCP for this. He has placed tariffs on Chinese goods and demanded action. Because of his leadership, we are finally holding China accountable.

Now some lawmakers want to sit down and make deals. But we must ask: What will they give up in return? Will they trade our national security for promises from a regime that has never kept its word? Will they sacrifice American jobs to please corporate lobbyists? This is not how we protect our people or our Constitution.

The Chinese Communist Party does not believe in freedom. They believe in control. They control what their people say, where they go, and even what they think. They use technology to spy on their citizens—and on us. And they want to spread that control around the world.

This is not a time for weak diplomacy. It’s a time for strength. President Trump understands that. Just days before the lawmakers’ visit, he spoke with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Trump made it clear: America wants fair trade, an end to fentanyl, and peace—not weakness. He plans to visit China soon, and he will do so from a position of strength, not submission.

America must never forget who we are. We are a free people. Our rights come from God, not government. Our Constitution limits government power and defends liberty. We must not trade that away for smooth words from tyrants.

We should talk with other countries, yes—but we must do so with clear eyes and a firm spine. We must protect our people first. That means securing our borders, stopping fentanyl, keeping our military strong, and standing up to those who wish us harm.

Let the world know: America is open for honest trade, but we will never bow to communism. Not now. Not ever. The Constitution is our guide, and liberty is our cause. Let us speak boldly, act wisely, and always put America first.
