Reporter: Harris = “No Comment” Candidate

“One thing is clear about Vice President Harris’ intent to stick to her old liberal views or govern with new centrist thinking: She doesn’t want voters to know,” reports Axios’ Alex Thompson. She’s “the ‘no comment’ candidate — purposely and strategically”; this “makes her actual governing plans a mystery even to many Democrats.” She and her campaign refuse to say if she still supports “ending the federal death penalty,” “federal prisoners and detained immigrants obtaining taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries,” “decriminalizing prostitution” or using executive orders “to unilaterally give a path to citizenship to 2 million ‘Dreamers’.” As for what she will commit to, “Harris’ limited public policy agenda has lots of overlap with Biden proposals that didn’t make their way through Congress.”

Jihad watch: The UK Loves To Lie

“If someone is killed by a jihadist,” thunders Douglas Murray at the Free Press, “the British public will not be informed of the possible motive — or at least not until it becomes impossible to conceal it any longer.” Axel Rudakubana, 18, a Rwandan immigrant who allegedly murdered three kids and injured others in a knife attack, is now revealed to have been in “possession of an al-Qaeda training manual and had tried to make the deadly toxin ricin.” But for voicing suspicions (now validated) that he was a terrorist, people were arrested. “The authorities seem to have once again decided that the public must not be given the facts. The only problem with which is that the public is not as stupid as the authorities seem to think.”

Conservative: Dems’ Open ‘Contempt’ for Voters

“Should Democrats lose this election, it will be in large part due to the contempt they routinely show tens of millions of voters,” argues The Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley A. Strassel. The media is “doing its best to play down Joe Biden’s casual insult of half of America as ‘garbage,’” calling it a “gaffe.” But it was “of a piece” with their and elites’ “open dismissal” of critics as “idiots, yokels, deplorables.” And the contempt is “alienating large segments of the country, including once-key sections of the Democratic coalition.” “Insults are the last refuge of fools, and there was a day when politicians on both sides understood the ‘likability’ factor in elections. It’s hard to like a party that views you as trash.”

Culture critic: Radiohead Frontman Bucks BDS

“Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has had enough of the anti-Israel bigots,” cheers Spiked’s Tim Black. Heckled at a show in Australia by a protester shouting “How many dead children will it take for you to condemn the genocide in Gaza?” Yorke brushed it off, saying: “Okay, you do it, see you later,” and walking off stage. Notes Black: “Point made, he returned a few minutes later to perform his final song of the show.” And “this wasn’t Yorke’s first run-in with the ‘pro-Palestine’ set.” Over the past decade, “bourgeois leftists have turned on Yorke and his Radiohead bandmates for refusing to stop playing in Israel and collaborating with Israelis,” but “Yorke refused to cave in to their demands.” “Here’s hoping more musicians pluck up the same courage.”

Libertarian: Americans Want Early Voting and Voter ID

The two political parties differ on voter-ID and early and mail-in voting, but voters “have a bone to pick with both parties, since they favor both ID and early voting,” observes Reason’s J.D. Tuccille. Gallup reports “76% of U.S. adults favor the concept of early voting” and Pew Research “found majority support for photo ID requirements, early voting, and allowing anybody to vote by mail.” Republicans at least have “shifted gears on getting voters to cast ballots any way they can,” while Democrats haven’t caught “with the preferences of their own base” on voter ID. “But the American people, by and large, want voting to be easy and to involve measures that they believe ensure some degree of honesty.”
