POLITICS: HUGE: Ohio House PASSES ‘Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act’ — Allows Public School To Teach Positive Impact Of Judeo‑Christian Values — ALL Democrats Voted NO

The Ohio House of Representatives on November 19, 2025 passed House Bill 486 — the Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act — a landmark measure that lets public school and university teachers include instruction on the positive impact of religion (specifically Judeo‑Christian values) in American history lessons, and now sends the bill to the Ohio Senate.

Rep. Roy Klopfenstein (R‑Haviland) was careful to stress the bill isn’t a mandate: “It’s important to clarify that this legislation does not mandate the teaching of any religion in our schools. However, there’s no denying that the foundation of our nation was shaped by Judeo-Christian values.”

Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel (R‑New Waterford) said, “Religion has played a significant role in the shaping of American values and freedoms. House Bill 486 ensures that the positive influence of faith is included in our history lessons, encouraging a fuller understanding of what has made our country great.”

Not everyone celebrated. All Ohio Democrats present voted against the bill, and education groups raised alarms about classroom impact — the Ohio Council for the Social Studies explicitly opposed House Bill 486, saying it does not support high‑quality social studies education.

Legislative tracking shows the bill was introduced less than two months before passage and, as of November 26, 2025, is pending consideration in an Ohio Senate committee (LegiScan).

The law’s text specifically amends and enacts sections of the Revised Code to permit instruction on the influence of Judeo‑Christian values on history and culture, language panels say — a change Republicans argue is consistent with, not opposed to, the First Amendment.
