House Democrats are worried about violence at the Democrat National Convention next week.

Congressional Security officials have been advising House Democrats not to book hotels under their own names, they were also told not to engage with protesters.

Axios reported:

House Democrats attending the Democratic National Convention next week are being advised by congressional security officials not to book hotel rooms under their own names or engage with protesters if confronted, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The guidance comes as some Democratic lawmakers are fearful about their safety after being rattled by a series of disruptive pro-Palestinian protests since the Israel-Hamas war started last year.

One House Democrat told Axios they are “very concerned” about their personal security and that “of course” other lawmakers are as well.

A senior House Democrat said law enforcement is telling members “not to go to a certain area, because they expect violence.”

“The protesters aren’t staying in a designated protest site … and there are people who are going to go and really try to cause trouble,” the lawmaker predicted.

Chicago Police Head Supt. Larry Snelling said there will not be a repeat of the 1968 violence at the DNC convention.

Epoch Times reported:

The head of the Chicago Police Department said that his law enforcement agency is ready for potentially thousands of protesters descending on the Democratic National Convention (DNC), slated to be held this week in Chicago.

“It’s not 1968. Our officers are trained differently,” Police Supt. Larry Snelling told Chicago-area station WMAQ-TV in reference to the infamous 1968 demonstrations and riots at the DNC against the Vietnam War.
“The department has evolved. Our officers have evolved. We’ve been training for this event for over a year, so the preparedness is what’s important,” he said.

Roughly 50,000 people are expected in Chicago for the convention, including thousands of anti-Israel war activists who plan to demonstrate near the United Center where Vice President Kamala Harris will officially accept the party’s nomination, officials have said.
