Greta Thunberg, formerly known for her climate activism, is now taking a leading role among anti-Israel protestors as she boards a ship headed to Gaza this Sunday in support of pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
The event has been organized by the Freedom Flotilla, a collection of organizations that oppose Israeli control over the contested region, according to AFP’s report.
European Parliament member Rima Hassan, who is also joining the mission, stated the journey had “several aims: to condemn the humanitarian blockade and ongoing genocide, the impunity granted to the state of Israel and raise international awareness.”
Since Hamas’s attacks on October 7, Thunberg has repeatedly denounced Israel for genocide, participating in demonstrations directed against the country.
The activist has engaged in numerous high-profile protests critical of Israel, often seen wearing a keffiyeh in solidarity with Palestine.
As noted by Breitbart News in a previous report, Thunberg was detained in September the previous year at the University of Copenhagen amid a pro-Hamas rally, after already having joined a major demonstration against Israel in May.
Controversy grew when a video circulated of Thunberg laughing and chanting “F**k Germany, F**k Israel!” at a pro-Palestinian gathering.
This incident took place while she was addressing a crowd in Mannheim, a south-western city in Germany, during an event held by the Zaytouna group in the Rhine-Neckar area, as reported by DPA via Yahoo News.
Additional criticism has arisen from Thunberg’s history of outspoken anti-Israel messages, a stance that aligns with the perspectives of figures in Tehran, Doha, and leaders from Hamas currently in hiding.
During a demonstration for Palestine in Stockholm in November 2023, she declared, “Crush Zionism.”
Greta Thunberg was named the youngest ever Person of the Year by Time magazine in 2019.
