Speaker Johnson Holds News Conference on Day 34 of Government Shutdown
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other House Republican leaders held a news conference on the 34th day of a government shutdown. They pushed back on Democrats’ criticisms regarding health care and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and they continued to blame Democrats for the ongoing shutdown and its impact on everyday Americans. Also, amid President Trump’s call to end the filibuster to reopen government, Johnson mentioned the downsides of eliminating the filibuster, listing several actions he said Democrats would like to do if the filibuster were eliminated
