Chief Twit Elon Musk has called for an investigation into George Soros for allegedly controlling access to information. In response to a letter from 25 left-wing advocacy groups, a billionaire investor made comments about major corporate brands potentially funding ads on Twitter.
The groups, including Media Matters for America, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, and others, argued that under the management of Elon Musk, Twitter could become a source of misinformation and urged the brands to ensure that Twitter maintains policies to address “hateful conduct, transparency, and enforce civic integrity.” The letter asked the brands to reconsider their decision to fund ads on the platform if Twitter plans to make changes once Musk takes control.
In response to the reports, Musk took to Twitter to call for an investigation into the organizations, tweeting: “Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to the information? Let’s investigate….” He then added, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant,” hinting that transparency and openness, not censoring, are always better.
The billionaire investor then responded to an Open Society Foundations post that said, “George, please slide into my DMs!” Musk said, “I will call him and ask. Here’s hoping,” expecting George Soros to respond to him.
Musk’s remarks have sparked a debate on social media, with some arguing that Soros’s Open Society Foundations has funded some of the groups that sent the letter to the major corporate brands, while others have questioned why Musk is targeting Soros and not the other groups.
The billionaire investor’s comments have also led to speculation that he may be trying to stoke the flames of a conspiracy theory popular among those on the far-right, which claims that Soros is manipulating the media and public opinion. But is that really a conspiracy theory, because that just sounds like what I’ve seen over the years.
