The Issue: President Trump’s insistence on the United States taking control of Greenland.

It is not often that I agree with The Post’s opinions, but your take on the “drama” created by the president in his unflinching desire to basically annex Greenland is spot-on (Please Can the Greenland Drama,” Editorial, Jan. 15).

The danger of destroying the NATO alliance, in addition to the aggressive taking of another sovereign’s protectorate — like the thuggery once displayed by Germany — is alarming.

Lou Maione

Manhattan

President Trump may have approached Greenland in a ham-fisted way from the outset, but he is absolutely correct about the threat posed if that huge island is left to Denmark, which has failed to keep the West’s enemies from building influence there.

Dierdre Burgman

Manhattan

The goal is laudatory, but the process is fouling the arctic air. Trump is correct on the national-security value and strategic importance of Greenland, but his bellicosity is turning Danish, Greenlander and NATO thumbs down. The art of this deal has not yet made the mark.

Paul Bloustein

Cincinnati, Ohio

If Trump is successful in acquiring Greenland, I believe it would be a win for the United States, Greenland and Denmark.

Greenland is a gem — potentially rich in natural resources. America has the money and technological capabilities to mine these resources and put them to use for the benefit of humanity. US involvement would lead to growth of commerce and the creation of high-paying jobs for Greenlanders.

Furthermore, possession of Greenland would give the US geopolitical and strategic advantage in the Arctic region, as we try to counter the influence of Russia and China. A stronger America would benefit all our NATO allies, Denmark included.

Madison, Wis.

Trump says anything less than Greenland in the United States’ hands is “unacceptable.” Not surprisingly, his insistence is beginning to rip the GOP apart.

No matter how badly Trump wants to play global tycoon, Republicans would do well to remind the president that island nations are not properties on a Monopoly board. The question is whether they will.

The Issue: Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado giving President Trump her Nobel.

How is it that former President Barack Obama continues to be lionized for a successful Nobel Prize nomination that was submitted 11 days into his term, but President Trump was snubbed for a Nobel following ground-breaking achievements in his first term (“Peace out, says Nobel winner,” Jan. 16)?

Now, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who dedicated her Nobel win to President Trump, has literally gifted her prize to the president, to the howls of the left, still reeling from Trump’s lightning Freedom Strike in Venezuela that nukes their soft-talk theories.

Will Graves

Winter Park, Fla.

María Corina Machado has passed on her Nobel Peace medal to Donald Trump, who is not deserving of it based on his recent actions. It is an unworthy political stunt by a desperate leader.

Dennis Fitzgerald

Melbourne, Australia

If you had María Corina Machado’s cards, would you not also use them to persuade Trump to endorse you as the next Venezuelan president?

Her “cards” are in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize, which she gave to Trump in the hopes that he chooses her. As of now, he’s backed Delcy Rodríguez, but Machado’s gift to him could change that. Only time and Trump will tell.
