POLITICS: Dodgers to White House? Yes

Should the Dodgers visit the White House to celebrate their 2025 World Series triumph?

Yes, of course.

The club should follow tradition, enjoy the honor, and ignore calls from anti-ICE zealots to stay home.

Some pundits, obsessed with performative politics, have pressed the Dodgers to scotch the visit.

That would be folly.

Baseball is a game, a sport, a pastime. 

With spring training nearly here, serious pundits will focus on topics like players, rosters and rivalries; the Automated Balls-Strike Challenge System debuting this year; and general prospects for a 162-game season.

Instead, some press the Dodgers to make pointless political gestures.

The naysayers are off base (pun intended).

It is a great honor, dating to at least 1925, for the World Series victor to visit the White House in recognition of the feat achieved — regardless of who occupies the presidency.

Dodger Blue graced both the Biden White House in 2021, after the club’s 2020 title, and the Trump White House in 2025, after the squad’s 2024 win.

Team manager Dave Roberts has it right: “I’m going to go to the White House,” he says of 2026. “. . . I am going to continue to try to do what tradition says and not try to make political statements, because I am not a politician.”

That approach serves his club, and the broader culture, well.

Americans are fed up with politics bleeding into every facet of life, from sports to education to the Grammys and other entertainment.

Calls for sports boycotts over politics divide and exclude people at a time when we need more unity, not less.

Scratching the White House visit would achieve nothing constructive.

So the right call is obvious, like a pitch down the heart of the plate.

The Dodgers should focus on chasing a three-peat and dismiss silly calls to skip a (customary) meet-and-greet.
