In Tuesday night’s State of the Union, President Trump laid out a question, and a choice for the midterms: Are you for Americans or not?

“Tonight, I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle,” Trump said.

“If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”

Democrats remained frozen in their chairs.

Yes, the State of the Union is political pageantry. The yelling from the opposition party and the over-excitement from the party in power are to be expected at this point.

But even for the sake of optics, the Democrats refused to stand because they genuinely believe people who are here illegally are on equal footing as an American like me.

In one evening, they sat with pride as they anointed themselves as the overtly anti-American political party.

The first time I voted was for first-term Barack Obama, who openly spoke with a pro-American and common-sense immigration message, maintaining that America is a land of opportunity only accessible to those who come here legally.

“The American people, they appreciate and believe in immigration, but they can’t have a situation where you just have half a million people pouring over the border without any mechanism to control it,” Obama stated in a 2009 Town Hall in Costa Mesa, Calif.

He continued, “This is not going to be a free ride. You’re going to pay a significant fine. You’re going to learn English. You’re going to go to the back of the line so you don’t go ahead of someone in Mexico City who’s applying legally.”

This rhetoric is indistinguishable from what Donald Trump is stating today, and it was the primary political message that got him re-elected.

The message hasn’t changed, the messengers have. The Democratic Party has rejected protecting the American working class from illegal foreigners who do not have a right to be here.

Old-school Democrats like Chuck Schumer have altered their former stances on immigration and cower to socialists within their party because they’re afraid of being primaried. and losing their seat to power.

Their cowardly nature is what repelled me from the Democrats and becoming led me toward being a pragmatic Trump voter in 2024.

Antagonistic policies

Democrats now champion policies and ideologies that are antagonistic to the average working-class Americans.

To many voters, the Democrats seem obsessed with fringe cultural issues, over taxation and pleasing the coastal elites over the working class.

No where is the distinction clearer than with illegal immigration.

President Joe Biden’s four years proved that, given power, Democrats would throw open the border to anyone and everyone — then put them up in free hotels.

Illegal immigration has never and will never benefit honest, hardworking Americans, but it does favor companies that want to save money on labor costs.

The checks and balances of legal immigration minimize admitting people with criminal histories, but the Democrats appear to be fine with American casualties, so their corporate donors are happy, and their census numbers grow within their districts.

There’s also a far-left philosophy that has captured the Democratic Party, one that believes borders shouldn’t even exist, and that globalization is more important than patriotism.

You see it in polling. In 2001, 87% of Democrats said they were proud to be Americans. Today that number is a shocking 36%. Republican pride over that time actually rose, from 90% to 92%.

How can we expect a political party that rejects what makes us unique in the world and despises who we are to lead us toward a positive future?

I care about the future for my 20-year-old son, who has an anti-American party prepared to minimize his concerns and force him to compete against human trafficked illegal immigrants for the same job opportunities.

The liberal media says the midterms will be a referendum on the economy or Donald Trump’s personality. On Tuesday night, the president made it a referendum on national pride.

Do you stand for Americans, or don’t you?

Democrats sat.
