A funny thing happened at the Democratic National Convention last week. Not only has Kamala Harris stolen Donald Trump’s no-tax-on-tips policy but her party shape-shifted into MAGA Republicans in front of our eyes.
Where once they slandered the American flag as racist and sometimes set it on fire, here were Democrats drowning in a sea of Stars and Stripes as Harris took the stage Thursday night.
One minute Oprah was stealing Trump’s refrain about “common sense.”
The next minute Pete Buttigieg was introducing himself to the crowd by saying: “You might recognize me from Fox News.”
Conventiongoers wore camo hats and the entertainment included a country singer from rural Alabama and a sheriff in uniform.
Between the “USA! USA!” chants, Harris’ exhortations to God and country, and Tim “Stolen Valor” Walz’s schmaltzy shtick as a Midwestern conservative, you could be forgiven for thinking you were at a Trump rally.
That’s exactly what Harris’ gimlet-eyed brain trust of former Obama-ites wants you to think.
By transforming Komrade Kamala into an ideological moderate, a tough-on-crime prosecutor and national-security hawk, they are making a naked bid for swing voters, independents and the 500,000 Republicans who voted for Anyone-But-Trump in the GOP primaries on Super Tuesday.
Wall of shamelessness
In her campaign video, Harris even showcased Trump’s border wall that she had previously maligned and blocked.
“Fixing the border is tough” says the narrator. “So is Kamala Harris.”
The shamelessness is breathtaking. As the Biden administration’s point person for illegal migration since March 2021, so-called “border czar” Harris is responsible for the unfettered invasion of more than 10 million illegal aliens who have crossed the southern border.
But now we are told she is tougher than Trump, an aggressive “border-state prosecutor” with a record of fighting the cartels who control the border.
“After decades in law enforcement, I know the importance of safety and security, especially at our border,” she said with a straight face.
Her speech portrayed her as “tough on crime” even though she is on record praising the defund-police movement at the height of the BLM-Antifa riots of 2020 and urging on the rioters.
“They’re not gonna stop,” she told Stephen Colbert in June 2020. “They’re not going to let up — and they should not.”
She even promoted a fundraiser to bail out the rioters who trashed Minneapolis.
She is the opposite of a law-and-order candidate and the easiest way to understand her new persona is to realize that every position that came out of her mouth Thursday is the opposite of the truth.
Her speech was a cynical grab bag of poll-tested keywords designed to allay well-founded fears of conservatives that she is a far-left radical in sheep’s clothing.
There was barely a peep of complaint from the progressives in the room or the media at Harris’ abrupt U-turn. They know exactly what’s going on.
In a clip that went viral on social media, a speaker at a DNC “Black Caucus” meeting let the cat out of the bag: “We got 70 days to act right . . . After 70 days, we can go back to acting crazy.”
Most excited about the DNC convention were warmongering never-Trumpers who hate the former president so much they think nothing of jettisoning all conservative principles to lionize a leftist.
Bill Kristol, the Iraq War’s chief cheerleader, for instance, wasted no time endorsing Harris and praised the prime-time appearance Thursday of former CIA Director Leon Panetta, one of the unrepentant Dirty 51 liars who falsely claimed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
“Leon Panetta quoting Ronald Reagan!” tweeted Kristol. “My kind of Democratic convention.”
Among the turncoat Republicans honored with a prime-time speaking slot was former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Nancy Pelosi’s pet traitor on the Jan. 6 committee: “Democrats are as patriotic as” Republicans, he gushed.
Later he told CNN that Harris’ speech was “really good. Trump has ceded so much ground that used to be traditionally Republican ground [such as] national defense . . . Kamala came in and took that ground [on] immigration [and] Ukraine. I think if you’re an undecided Republican out there it’s tough not to vote for Kamala now.”
He’s a cheap date.
Harris’ crafty speechwriters had studded her speech with enough trigger words to satisfy the neocon world. She claimed to have “confronted threats to our security, negotiated with foreign leaders, and strengthened our alliances.”
She even boasted about meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference in February 2022 “to warn him about Russia’s plan to invade” as if the Russian troops amassed on his border weren’t obvious.
One observer of her performance in Munich was astonished that she highlighted it in her speech because it was so embarrassing. Five days later, Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. So, unless that was her aim, she failed miserably.
As part of her new persona, Harris wore a conservative navy pantsuit rather than the pastels she usually favors, and didn’t make a big deal about being a woman.
After years of decrying toxic masculinity, especially of the pallid hue, Democrats now are inviting “white dudes for Kamala” to a seat at the table, although, as CNN’s Dana Bash pointed out, they are not “”the testosterone-laden, gun-toting type of guy who wants to listen to Hulk Hogan” but subservient men who know their place in the matriarchy —like Walz and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
A Kennedy says it best
The antidote to the topsy-turvy Alice in Wonderland bubble at the DNC convention was Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s sincere and thoughtful endorsement of Trump on Friday.
“How did the Democratic Party choose a candidate who has never done an interview or a debate during the entire election cycle? We know the answers. They did it by weaponizing government agencies. They did it by abandoning democracy,” Kennedy said.
“They did it by silencing the opposition and by disenfranchising American voters. What most alarms me isn’t how the Democratic Party conducts its internal affairs or runs its candidates. What alarms me is the resort to censorship and media control and the weaponization of federal agencies.”
“In one speech he punctured the smoke-and-mirrors fakery of the DNC convention and showed how hollow the party’s appeals to “freedom” are.
The freedom of Harris-Walz is the coercion of going along with their big government projects like “free” college, “free” child care, “Medicare for all,” price fixing and taxes on nonexistent profits to pay for it all.
It’s the freedom of FBI censorship and CIA lies, of SWAT raids on the homes of pro-life Christians and state spies at Catholic Mass. It’s the freedom of Mao and Stalin, and of authoritarians everywhere.
No dissent is allowed in the explosion of joy that Harris’ ascension has brought forth.
The censorship industrial complex will see to that. Otherwise, it’s off to the gulag with you.
