Itβs just stupid for Democrats in Congress to turn Minneapolis into a cause for another government shutdown starting Friday β why canβt they just βtake the winβ?
Sadly, theyβve just grown too afraid of crossing their base voters, who are sure the reason they canβt win a majority is that people who disagree just arenβt paying enough attention.
In reality, plenty of Americans who recoil at Homeland Security excesses also donβt want open borders, so wonβt go along with the leftβs quest to destroy ICE.
And donβt see the sense in even a limited government shutdown.Β
But here we are: Senate Dems intend to block a βminibusβ appropriations bill to express their fury over the Alex Pretti shooting and the whole Minneapolis mess β even though that drama is now winding down.
βSenate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included,β vowed Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Theyβll block funding for roughly half the government unless Republicans separate out DHS so they can block just Homeland Security.
At least Squad firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is honest: She and her lefty allies want all immigration enforcement suspended; theyβre right back to their βAbolish ICEβ demands from the first Trump term.
And even Dems who normally show some sense are running scared.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-Bx.) just cut a campaign ad where he calls for the abolition of the immigration enforcement agency; heβs also set forth a bill requiring QR codes on ICE and Border Patrol uniforms to help activists ID them for possible doxxing campaigns or worse.
Even βcommon senseβ Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-LI) now says he regrets his recent vote to fund ICE as he damns theΒ agencyβs βillegal and immoral conduct.β
Argh: If the GOP declines to let the Dems single out DHS (and why should it?), the progressive party will once again be shutting down a host of agencies that mainly help Democratic constituencies; theyβre also blocking any chance to restore at least some of the Obamacare subsidies they were demanding in the last shutdown drama.
And as the cool-down proceeds in Minneapolis, eventually enough moderates will quit holding everything up; Schumer & Co. might as well just be holding their breath βtil they turn blue.
The clueless leftβs power has grown so strong that Democrats are going to impose suffering on their own people in a completely futile stand.
