How committed are elite universities to making their campuses safe for Jew-hatred?
In the case of Cornell, so committed that even after the Trump administration froze $1 billion in funds for the school, it’s willing to play host to a musical artist who’s essentially called for genocide against Jews.
And get a load of its excuse in the face of well-deserved: It didn’t realize Kehlani, a megapopular Gen Z R&B artist, was so antisemitic until it was too late to replace her.
Please. Her hateful barbs are all over the internet. Not knowing of them sure seems like willful blindness.
How hateful is Kehlani? Well, she basically endorses the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people in a music video that begins by quoting “Long live the intifada” — i.e. the violent, terroristic effort to expel Jews from Israel with bombings, assassinations and (post-Oct. 7) mass rape, slaughter and kidnapping.
The singer, by co-signing on to the intifada, plainly supports all those things — no matter how much she and her management may try to backtrack and deny it.
She’s also said on social media, “Zionists are all evil,” the “scum of the earth” and should all “go to hell.”
By giving carte blanche to a student group to invite her to campus, Cornell is saying it’s fine with these vile positions.
And don’t buy that lame plea of ignorance about views — or that it’s too late to find a substitute. (Or just cancel the event.)
Would Cornell let kids invite a KKK-loving country rock group to perform on campus? Of course not.
It’s only when the victims of the hatred are Jews (and white people, straight men and Asians) that suddenly these schools start babbling about viewpoint neutrality.
This is sadly not surprising for Cornell, the school where, mere days after Oct. 7, a history “professor,” Russell Rickford, described the monstrous butchery Hamas committed as “exhilarating.”
His punishment? A slap on the wrist; Rickford’s already back teaching.
Cornell knows it screwed up; it’s already walking back, equivocating and trying to shift blame on to the student-run group that extended the invite.
But it’s clear where its leaders’ sympathies lie. And it’s yet more proof that the Ivies and many other elite schools are completely beyond salvation.
