The Issue: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reversing course to avoid a government shutdown.
Michael Goodwin laid out a brilliant view of the Democratic Party (“Dems ‘chuck’ unity,” March 16).
Sen. Chuck Schumer, may hold the title of minority leader, but he abdicated his power long ago. His party is falling to the likes of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the progressive wing.
Now the Democratic Party has morphed into the Progressive Party. Democrats looking for common sense ought to find another party or declare independence — the progressives certainly aren’t ceding power anytime soon.
Schumer, meanwhile, has proven to be a wimp when it comes to standing up for what he allegedly believes in. He should go off into the sunset in shame.

Goodwin deftly describes the state of panic Trump has created in the Democratic Party.
Their old playbook — blaming Republicans for everything — has been torn apart. And like starving rats, they’ve resorted to eating their own.
Schumer was skewered by his own party for the unforgivable sin of supporting the Republican spending bill to avoid a government shutdown. As Democrats choke on “ground Chuck,” President Trump gets to feast on another win.

The treatment Schumer is getting from his own party proves the Democratic Party is filled with hateful, intolerant jerks.
For years, Schumer put his party above the interests of New York and America. Now, for going against the radicals, he’s essentially a persona non grata, someone to be harassed and canceled. It’s sad to see.

Schumer will survive this revolt by virtue of the fact that there is no one stronger to replace him.

The former El Cid of the Democratic Party, once able to win these battles, is now a dead man walking.
The solid team of Schumer, Reps. Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries and even AOC looks more like the Tower of Babel, crumbling before the country’s eyes. As Goodwin states, there’s no stopping Donald Trump.

The Issue: The possibly illegal deportations of Tren de Aragua members to El Salvador.
As someone who voted for President Trump three times, I nevertheless agree with The Post’s editorial stance (“Deport Them — Legally,” Editorial, March 17).
Did the Trump administration ignore a federal court order temporarily blocking flights deporting accused Venezuelan gang members? Seems likely. Trump’s team says this is headed to the Supreme Court, where they believe they’ll win.
No matter what, the rule of law must hold. I believe the judge has the authority to halt new flights until he hears arguments, but Trump also has the right to use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to stop what his administration argues is an invasion
Ultimately, I’m thankful Trump stopped the slow bleeding at our borders and is trying to undo the damage Biden’s open-border policies caused.

You want hearings for each gang member? You must be nuts!
What if the judge isn’t satisfied with the proof and lets the gangsters loose?
Earth to The Post’s editors: This is the real world. We are in a time of war. Just as Lincoln halted habeas corpus and took other unconstitutional actions because he was living in reality, exigencies require decisive action now.
