POLITICS: Cea Weaver’s anti-homeowner screeds: Letters

The Issue: The resurfacing of radical claims by Mayor Mamdani’s tenant advocate, Cea Weaver.

Mayor Mamdani has already screwed up by appointing crybaby Cea Weaver as the city’s chief tenants-rights advocate (“Housing aide’s radical ‘take,’ ” Jan. 7).

The man who has never held a real job appointed a woman whose mother owns a million-dollar mansion, in Tennessee no less, to do a job she clearly has no clue how to do.

Weaver’s statements show a person out of touch with reality. How dare she insult hard-working people, many of them children or grandchildren of immigrants who have worked to purchase their homes? How dare she want them to share what they’ve accomplished?

I hope all who voted for this are ready to share their homes.

That was fast. It only took a few days for the mayor’s anti-white staff to show their true colors.

If Mamdani doesn’t fire Weaver immediately, it’ll indicate he’s on board with her remarks. Can you imagine the fallout had she said something anti-black? ​

I’m sure Weaver would regard white homeowners like me to be advocates of white supremacy, but I am curious as to what she’d have to say to the thousands of black, Hispanic and Asian homeowners throughout the city.

Most of my neighbors are hard-working Chinese-Americans who own two or three family homes. Are they weaponizing “white supremacy” by owning their own homes?

Like so many people who came here legally, my family worked long and hard to purchase a home. They raised a family while paying taxes and improving the property over many years—only to see it controlled by narrow-minded ideologues who have the audacity to call them “white supremacists.”

This is an insult to all hard-working Americans who asked for nothing but an opportunity to live a better life.

If Mamdani is going to be a true leader, he must recognize and admit when he has made a mistake.

It seems clear to me that he failed to properly vet Weaver before appointing her to head the Office to Protect Tenants.

Weaver not only represents a danger to property owners of all colors, but to civil liberties as well. She reflects a totalitarian mindset and is dangerously dissociated from normal thinking.

These are the same folks who can rationalize murder as a “collective good” to justify their coercive ideology. It’s what socialism is and has always represented, whether in Russia, China, Venezuela or Cuba.

It’s no surprise Mam­dani, with his notorious Marxist pedigree, would create a special tenants’ rights czar who longs for the expropriation of middle-class homeowners — especially whites — from the American dream.

Weaver is a sadly predictable product leaking our of the lab of our anti-America “higher education” establishment. Boy, does Mamdummy know how to pick them.

Mamdani is showing he’s neither morally nor intellectually uplifting as he installs the likes of Cea Weaver.

It’s harmless to hear academic rhetoric about seizing one’s property, but the reality of its implementation must be stopped.

Reading about Weaver’s appointment as tenant advocate in New York City sent a chill up my spine, even though I’m in sunny Florida.

In 2018, Weaver wrote “seize private property” and “home ownership is racist.” In 2021, she stated that families “who are homeowners are, well, are gonna have a different relationship to property than the one we currently have.”

Now she casually dismisses these as “regretful comments.” They are beyond regretful;​ they are threatening and horrifying.
