A Maryland abortion facility that aborts preborn babies through the third trimester recently removed a section from its website that mentioned working with Georgetown University. The Catholic institution vehemently denied ever having a relationship with the abortion facility when contacted by The College Fix.

CARE Reproductive Health, an abortion facility in Chevy Chase, Maryland, provides “comprehensive training programs for medical students, residents, and advanced practice clinicians” on abortions, according to its website.

It also works “directly with universities and medical schools to offer tailored training that aligns with their unique curricula,” its website states.

On Jan. 5, Georgetown was listed among the universities that the abortion facility works “directly with,” according to screenshots of the facility’s website, taken by The Fix. The other institutions listed are the University of Maryland, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Washington State University, and Ross University School of Medicine. Their names still appear on the website.

However, Georgetown was removed from the list a short time after The Fix contacted both to ask about the affiliation.

“We do not have a partnership with this organization,” Georgetown’s media relations office responded in an unsigned email when asked about the webpage.

In a follow-up email, when The Fix asked for further clarification, the university responded: “Georgetown University has never had a partnership with this organization. Our name was listed in error and has since been removed.”

The university did not answer The Fix’s questions about what may have prompted the abortion facility to include Georgetown on its website.

An unnamed representative of the abortion facility also responded to The Fix earlier this month, asking about its work with Georgetown.

The facility is “open to training arrangements with academic institutions; however, we do not have a direct, formal partnership with Georgetown University,” the representative stated.

When universities work with the abortion facility, students can “choose to complete externships at clinics like ours to gain hands-on exposure and practical insight into compassionate, evidence-based abortion care,” the representative told The Fix.

In a follow-up email, The Fix asked why Georgetown was listed on its website and what, if any, relationship it previously may have had with the university, but no one responded.

Because Georgetown is a Catholic institution, its Medical Center does not perform abortions, according to The Hoya, the university’s student newspaper.

“As the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution in the United States, Georgetown University aligns itself with the values and beliefs of the Catholic Church, including those that condemn abortion,” which destroys an innocent human life before birth, the newspaper reports.

The leader of a Catholic group expressed concern about the possible link between Georgetown and the abortion facility when contacted by The Fix.

If true, any partnership between Georgetown and the abortion facility would be a “scandal to the faithful and a betrayal of its Catholic identity,” TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie said via email.

“As the oldest Catholic university in the United States, Georgetown has a profound responsibility to uphold the moral teachings of the Church,” Ritchie said. His organization advocates for traditional Catholic and family values.

“Authentic Catholic education must defend innocent life—especially the preborn—or it loses its soul and friendship with God,” he said.

Meanwhile, the abortion facility’s continuing work with other universities drew sharp criticism from a pro-life leader whose organization researches legal and code violations and patient injuries at abortion facilities across the country.

“This abortion clinic has maimed women, shamelessly employed criminal and dangerous abortionists, and flouted state regulations repeatedly,” Operation Rescue Chief Operating Officer Sarah Neely told The Fix in an email Monday.

“That’s not rhetoric, it is a well-documented history of abortion injuries, criminal activity, and unlicensed operations,” Neely said.

Her organization’s website Abortion Docs documents medical malpractice and compliance allegations against the Maryland abortion facility and the abortion doctors who work, or used to work, there.

“The idea of this substandard abortion business training anyone is beyond belief — unless they are training them to exploit women and botch abortions,” Neely told The Fix.

The abortion facility also is one of only a few providers in the country that aborts preborn babies through the third trimester. Its website states that it “offer[s] safe, compassionate in-clinic surgical abortion care from 24-35 weeks (third trimester),” a two- to three-day procedure.
