President Trump Meets With African Leaders
President Trump hosted African leaders at the White House following his administration’s decision to fold USAID into the State Department and pivot from traditional aid to a business-driven approach. The presidents of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal made their pitches for U.S. investment in their nations in exchange for access to natural resources. The leaders also thanked Trump for helping broker a peace deal between Congo and Rwanda and voiced their support for him winning a Nobel Peace Prize. Moreover, in response to a reporter’s question about whether former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey should be in prison amid news of the FBI launching criminal investigations, Trump said, “Well, I know nothing about it … But I will tell you, I think they’re very dishonest people; I think they’re crooked as hell … so whatever happens, happens.” Trump also reacted to the IRS’s decision of churches now being allowed to endorse candidates.
