Hunter Biden is facing fresh legal scrutiny over his relationship with his 7-year-old daughter, Navy Joan Roberts, amid a renewed dispute with her mother, Lunden Roberts.
In fresh filings tied to a reopened paternity case, Biden’s legal team is pushing back hard against Lunden’s claim that he ignored prior commitments, further arguing that his daughter’s emotional response to the situation should not factor into the court’s decision.
Hunter thinks daughter’s feelings are ‘immaterial’
According to a new filing, Biden’s attorneys — who moved to dismiss the motion and all of Lunden’s demands — believe it is “immaterial” that he allegedly “ghosted” Navy, saying he was never legally required to maintain a personal relationship with her.
“Specifically, the averments regarding the child’s emotional state, her relationship with defendant, and their communications and bonding … are not relevant to contempt or modification of child support,” Biden’s lawyer Davis Langdon wrote.
The response came after Lunden asked the court to hold Biden in contempt and increase child support, claiming he failed to meet obligations he agreed to in a 2023 settlement.
‘Emotional trauma’ allegations
In her motion, Lunden said Biden and their daughter had shared a short period of regular contact through scheduled calls.
Until, she claimed, “suddenly and without warning or explanation, Mr. Biden ghosted [Navy].”
According to Lunden, “This has caused issues for [Navy], who recently experienced emotional trauma at a family member’s wedding when she realized that her dad would not walk her down the aisle or dance with her at her own wedding reception.”
Roberts’ filing also claims Biden did not deliver promised artwork that was included as part of their prior settlement.
Biden, who turned to painting as a therapeutic outlet during his recovery from addiction, previously sold some works for hundreds of thousands of dollars, though he has argued their value dropped sharply after his father, former President Joe Biden, left office.
His attorneys said the artwork terms were never tied to a strict delivery timeline.
In the filing, lawyer Davis Langdon wrote, “Even if no paintings had been given to the child to date, such would not violate the order, because as long as 30 paintings are assigned to the child … defendant will have complied with the order.”
He added that Navy will be allowed to choose which paintings she wants by a specific but undisclosed deadline.
Support payments dispute
Lunden is also seeking higher support payments, citing what she calls Hunter’s improved “lavish lifestyle” and differences between Navy’s circumstances and those of his other children.
Hunter has five kids — three with ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and one with current wife Melissa Cohen — in addition to Navy.
His lawyers argue Lunden has not proven his finances have materially changed and pushed back on her broader allegations, calling them “merely for the purpose of embarrassing [him] and making a national spectacle of [his] personal life.”
