Thereโs a stunning silence from supposed allies of the United States in President Trumpโs campaign to take down Iranโs despotic rulers.
No, not NATO. Weโre talking about Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, among other Gulf States.
No nations benefit more from the de-fanging of Iran, and indeed reports suggest the House of Saud in particular is cheering the bombardment from behind the scenes.
So why arenโt they offering to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz?
Saudi foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan this week said that the country would take military actions โif deemed necessary.โ Is now not necessary?
In 2017, Saudi Arabia agreed with Trump in his first term to buy $350 billion in American arms over 10 years. Now would seem to be a good time to use them.
For too long, the Gulf States have benefitted from US aid yet failed to offer assistance. They would not take refugees from Gaza or Syria. Qatar even hosts the leaders of Hamas, yet says itโs an ally.
And now, even though an Iran that doesnโt fund foreign terrorists, isnโt fueling a civil war in Yemen and isnโt trying to build a nuclear bomb is an absolute win, they wonโt act.
Enough. Stop being mad at NATO and start getting upset with Iranโs neighbors. They need to put their own militaries to work to take down Iranโs dictators and have a free Persian Gulf. They need to have our backs.ย
