How many more assaults, robberies, rapes and murders will New Yorkβs progressives let vicious street thugs and mentally ill vagrants commit?
On Friday, a homeless parolee with more than a dozen prior arrests, Lateef Green, went after an innocent straphanger with a knuckle knife and stabbed him multiple times, cops say.
Why was this guy free to roam around in search of his next victim?
Because New Yorkβs electeds love criminals more than they do law-abiding citizens.Β
Green had gotten sent up to Mid-State Correctional Facility in 2017 over a 2016 hate attack, in which he severely beat a man in Harlem after screaming, βThereβs too many fβts in this town.β
He was given a slap on the wrist sentence: three to six years.Β
He served less than four and got paroled in 2021, way before he had remotely paid his debt for his vicious crime.Β
Then, in February he was nabbed for jumping a turnstile.
Proving yet again that βsmallβ crimes and big ones go hand in hand.Β
And that if you act against the former, you can prevent the latter.
Yet there he was, out on the streets. Free to commit new crimes.
The idea that someone on parole for a violent crime β with multiple arrests on his record, no less β should get a free pass for any offense is beyond absurd: In a functioning society heβd have been shipped back to prison the day after he jumped that turnstile.
Now that itβs too late, the authorities have leaped into action β hitting Green with high bail and an attempted murder charge.
Itβs only by sheer chance he didnβt kill anyone.
Yet now Gov. Kathy Hochul wants to let more violent thugs out of prison early, after she fired 2,000 correction officers for illegally striking and created a staffing shortage.Β
Β It makes you wonder: Do Hochul and lefty pols have so little concern for crime victims?
Or do they actually want people like Green out on streets terrifying New Yorkers?Β
