After ABC suspended late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over comments made about Charlie Kirk and the man accused of assassinating him, the late-night host is coming back. The company announced Monday that Kimmel will return to his show starting Tuesday night.

The company released a statement about ending the suspension. Officials said they made the decision after having “thoughtful conversations with Jimmy” and said they suspended him after they felt some of his comments were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.”

You can read the full statement below:

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Why did ABC suspend Kimmel?

On Wednesday, ABC and parent company Disney said it pulled the late-night host off “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely after he made remarks about Kirk’s murder during his monologue.

“We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said during the monologue.

The decision came after media company Nexstar said it would no longer air Kimmel’s show on its more than 20 ABC affiliate channels. Nexstar is in the middle of a $6.2 billion deal to acquire Tegna, another media company, and would need approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said that Nexstar made the right choice when it decided to stop airing Kimmel.

“I want to thank Nexstar for doing the right thing,” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said on X. “Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values.”

Carr later threatened to pull the licenses for ABC and Disney over Kimmel’s show.
