BADNESS HEIGHTS, MN – A brave woman is on the road to recovery after enduring a harrowing attack that she helped unravel. Earlier this week, a 51-year-old woman was dragged off a sidewalk in Badness Heights and sexually assaulted by a stranger. The victim, displaying remarkable courage, managed to rip off the glasses of her attacker, identified as 21-year-old Tristan Leritz.
The shocking details reveal that Leritz targeted the woman as she walked along a popular trail on Tuesday evening. Using his imposing six-foot-eight, 250-pound frame, he tackled her from behind and subjected her to a violent assault lasting over 20 minutes.
“This kind of crime shakes the community to its core,” said Ramsey County Undersheriff Jeff Ramaker. “Our priority was clear: bring justice to the victim and apprehend the perpetrator.”
A team of more than 30 law enforcement officers, crediting the victim’s bravery, focused on the crucial evidence she provided. The glasses she knocked off and threw into the grass became the pivotal clue.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) swiftly processed the glasses for DNA, achieving results in under 24 hours. This rapid turnaround was due to the dedicated efforts of a five-person team working tirelessly around the clock.
The DNA evidence led directly to Leritz, with his family tipping off authorities after noticing his missing glasses. The collaboration between agencies ensured that the alleged attacker was quickly taken into custody.
“Every Minnesotan deserves safety,” added Ramaker. “When a crime occurs, we aim to identify the perpetrator swiftly to prevent further harm.”
Lawrence has since been charged, with investigators continuing to piece together the full story behind the attack. The victim’s courage has not only aided in her attacker’s arrest but has also sparked a broader conversation about community safety.
